I hate AccuWeather.......how come customers did not have a choice or a vote to keep The Weather Channel???? AccuWeather stinks, there are no REAL stories nor do the show any weather people out in the field......this is the worst, I watch the weather channel everyday. I might just think about changing my service to someone who has The Weather Channel!!! I hate this.....ugh !

We live in Virginia, and we don't have Weathernation.  Last night, we tried going to Channel 49 for Verizon's useless Weatherbug, and Verizon has REMOVED that channel altogether!  So now we only have the useless Accuweather.

Even though those of us posting in this forum have access to the Internet, we really used Weatherscan (Ch. 49) several times a day as it was so quick and convenient to see if bad weather was in the area or on the way . . . especially helpful for outdoor activities, as well.  We don't leave our desktop computer on all the time, so it isn't quick  to go to the computer and check the radar online.  The cost of a smart phone and its subsequent contract isn't worth being able to see live radar.

You are just noticing it? It's been down for months now. I don't think you used it as much as you said you did if you are just now noticing it's gone.

We still had Weatherbug on Ch 49 last week, not that it gave us any useful information.  Maybe it has been down for months where you live, but not here in Virginia.  I don't care that it's gone . . . just making a statement.  When Verizon cancelled TWC and Weatherscan, they told us we now have Accuweather AND Weatherbug.  Now we're just stuck with Accuweather.

And even if they aren't, there is no place else to discuss our concerns, so why not do it here.

Oh, my 75+ year old mother and in-laws all have smart phones, tablets and computers.  The older generation isn't as out-of-touch as you think.

Enjoy.

Bingo. I know a lot of elderly people including family who know how to use a simple device.

Not all smart phones are complicated unless one makes them. How hard is it to teach someone something as well?

It doesn't take much to show someone how to push a few buttons. It's no different then pushing a remote button.

Everyone keeps making excuses as to why they can't access their weather information elsewhere which I find amazing.

What if TWC didn't even exist at all anymore?
I guess it would be the apocalypse for some. wow. lol

You are very heartless and cruel.  The elderly in my family do not have computers or cell phones.  They have landline phones and TV's - period.  They have been hardworking simple folks all their lives and now you want to slap them in the face.  No wonder this country is going down the toilet.

Things have been changing since the beginning of time. New things are adapted, things evolve, etc.

If one doesn't want to adapt that's up to them, but why act like this is something that just started happening.

TV's didn't even exist at one time. Age is nothing but an excuse. My father in law is 72 and disabled, but that didn't stop him from learning how to use a computer that I gave him.

This is my last post in this thread and I will leave it at this.

Some of you are taking this weather channel issue way far beyond where it needs to go and turning it into something bigger then it really is.

So if it is so out of date to want to watch weather reporting on TV instead of on a computer, then it is also out of date to watch the news on TV. Verizon should dump CNN. It must be old fashioned to watch movies, sit-coms, and sports on TV too. They should dump all the movie channels, and ABC, CBS, NBC, and ESPN since all of that programming has "evolved" beyond TV and can be seen on other technology. Oh and HGTV and DIY, they might as well dump those channels too because you can find how to's and home decorating ideas on YouTube and google searches. Heck, Verizon should just shut it all down since anything and everything can be found online. They no longer need to be in the cable TV business. And of course TV's didn't exist at one time. Your smart phone didn't exist at one time. So what's the point? It doesn't matter. Goodnight. Sincara said: Things have been changing since the beginning of time. The Weather Channel is a public service.  Accuweather is an insult as is the justification for Verizon offering it.  Now the widget Weather Bug is no longer available on channel 49.  There is no channel 49 anymore.

The National Weather Service is a public service.  TWC is a private, commercial business.  Big difference.  With NWS, we get weather, plain and simple.  With TWC, we get commercials, Ice Road Truckers, Jim Cantore standing in a hurricane, sensationalized weather stories and made up names for winter storms.

I'll take the pubic NWS any day over private commercialized TWC any day.

Enjoy.

I pay close to $300 a month and I was about to jump to the 150/150 plan from the 75/75. My wife has several channels she watches and DVRs, all of which are available via a MULTITUDE of providers. I have a handful of shows I DVR...ALL of which are on the Weather Channel. I don't watch the weather channel for the weather, I go to channel 49 for that...oh wait, the **bleep** at Verizon have cancelled that channel as well. And I'll bet I'm getting ZERO credit on my account for the MAIN channels I watch being cancelled. I would like to know what research FIOS did to confirm these channels should be cancelled. Show me the lack of interest in these channels. I KNOW Verizon monitors the shows that are DVR'd...I have friends with Verizon, they DO track who DVRs what.

I know SOOOOO many people who watch Weather Channel shows...I'm not talking about current weather-based shows, I'm talking about the educational and entertaining shows aired on TWC. Highway through Hell, coast guard alaska, weather caught on camera, extreme weather, prospectors, the wife watches Wake up with Al, strangest weather on earth, tornado alley, secrets of earth, raging nature, etc. And now TWC has NEW shows that I was REALLY looking forward to watching...and LEARNING...why planes crash, fat guys in the woods, the list goes on and on. As a science buff, these shows are GREAT at teaching my family about weather and science...my wife comments how she learns something new every time we watch one of these shows. These shows have something that EVERYONE in my family enjoys. My teenager loves the adrenaline rush of it, the wife learns something about weather that she didn't know and this gives me SOMETHING on TV that holds my interest....thanks for taking that away Verizon. This will help me make the decision to cut the wire...I'll just go to comcast for the line to the Internet and be done. My contract agreement INCLUDES TWC.

Once again, Verizon couldn't care less about its customers and their desires....not sure about other customers but "I" wasn't asked about removing it. Then again, as I said, I know for a fact they monitor what is being DVR'd...they probably avoided me at all cost, KNOWING what my response would be.

**bleep** Verizon?!??! As I say to my KID, an IMMATURE person once in a while...**bleep** is WRONG WITH YOU?!?! WHAT are you thinking?!?! So, I guess one should equate this move to an IMMATURE corporate decision.

Finally, I will tell you now, IF you come back later and tell me TWC is now part of some "package" that you are going to charge me extra for...

The new channel is terrible! Verizon is a joke..even though people may check weather on other devices... TWC had other shows and programing other than weather. Guess I will start checking out cable or satellite.

Bring back the WEATHER CHANNEL and WEATHERSCAN I can't stand the accuweather and most of the time the widgets don't work for me, how am I supposed to know what to wear in the morning if there is nothing to tell me what the temps are going to be that day and the week ahead, THANKS FOR RUINING MY DAY!!!

Am a retired golfer so the weather is important to me.  The Weather Channel gave me accurate information about conditions at the golf courses where I play regularly or when I am out of town.  Bring back the Weather  Channel!!!!!

As a Verizon Fios customer, I certainly pay enough every month to have the Weather Channel included in the lineup of channels available.  Take some of the other trash off but BRING BACK the Weather Channel!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have Verizon FIOS for our three TV's, internet and land telephone lines.  Please send me the number to call  to cancel these services since you violated that contract when you took away The Weather Channel for some second rate Accuweather channel.  I have wathced Jim Cantore for years and I watch the weather channel every day because it has a great line-up of informative shows.  What other channel lets me struggle with Jaime to keep "the Highway from Hell" open (who even knew there was a highway from hell).  What is your justification  for terminating this very popular show.... can't be the ratings because everyone I know watches the Weather Channel...often for seveeral hours a day.

So again, who do I call  to cancel my contract.  No weather channel...no me.

I could not agree MORE!

I'm also paying almost $300/month, and I'm royally **bleep** that I can't see PROSPECTORS, and my favorite TWC hosts!

And as far as I'm concerned, Verizon has breached our contract.

There is no doubt in my mind that this is truely a business decision on the part of Verizon.  TWC is experienced, professional, and has the tools and experienced professionals to provide what is needed.  This is all about $$$.

I also understand some of the complaints about the increasing amount of Reality TV on TWC.  I watch TWC durin my morning workout every day and liked to watch it at night before turning in, but lately there was always some reality show on instead of weather.  That could have been fixed.

But Seriously?!?  Dropping THE Weather Channel?!?  I gave Accuweather 10 days to convince me they were up to the task, but I swear its like watching Amatuer Hour.  The "Viewer Experience" is simply not up to the standard I expect.  I paid for THE Weather Channel, I want THE Weather Channel.

BRING BACK THE WEATHER CHANNEL!

P.S.  I signed up to this forum specifically to complain about this.  It is that important..

Me too!  In six years, I have never as much as called Verizon to complain.  BUT this is too much.  Enough to make me sign up here and post.........and to spend the time neccessary to check out other alternatives.  And there are at least SIX other choices in the DFW area that does carry TWC.  To my surprise, many have way better bundle pricing than Verizon.  I will wait a couple of weeks and then we are moving to another provider and Verizon will lose our TV, internet and residential phone.  ~ $300 per month.
