I hate AccuWeather.......how come customers did not have a choice or a vote to keep The Weather Channel???? AccuWeather stinks, there are no REAL stories nor do the show any weather people out in the field......this is the worst, I watch the weather channel everyday. I might just think about changing my service to someone who has The Weather Channel!!! I hate this.....ugh !

All these posts and letters, and yet Verizon doesn't listen. It is now time for Verizon's management team to be removed. The shareholders will speak.

The shareholders have spoken. That's why TWC is gone and large swaths of FiOS are being sold to Frontier. The money is in wireless.
Enjoy.

I've been hearing stories lately that people are being told by FiOS sales reps that Verizon is in negotiations to bring back The Weather Channel.
Is this true, or is this a "bait & switch" tactic being used by Verizon to lure new customers?
I'd really appreciate it if someone from FiOS cosmic control gave me an honest answer, and not the usual scripted reply.

They never officially ended negotiations. But it doesn't sound like they are going anywhere.

I'm confused, then. There's a website out there that says efforts to reach a resolution have ended (Then again, it's said that since the 15th of April) and a couple of my friends have confirmed through contacts of their own that there are no current negotiations as of a couple weeks ago...
As I just indicated, I'm confused on what to believe... All I know is that if negotiations are indeed still ongoing, then an agreement has to be reached and soon before FiOS' lack of The Weather Channel kills someone because they can't get current information (For all you post-watching trolls out there wishing to pounce on me for saying that, I offer this: ANYTHING is possible, so show some respect & check your facts before trolling me in a reply), but if negotiations are well and truly over, then Verizon needs to stop telling people they are in negotiations to get The Weather Channel back in order to entice new customers, because it all stinks of "Bait and Switch" advertising to me.
I intend no disrespect to you at all, TNS_2. I do appreciate your reply, but experience has taught me to always be a bit on the skeptical side when not presented with pure facts...

I am very Disappointed that The Weather Channel and Verizon FIOS have not come to terms. The ONLY people that are losing out are those whom count on The Weather Channel during severe weather. I think Verizon should cut a deal with Weather Nation and add a LIVE weather type channel, the Accuweather channel is taped segments that run until a forecast change or an update is needed. The best: Do what Directv is doing and add both Weather Nation and The Weather Channel, and while you're at it lets keep Accuweather too.
I realize it's always all about the money, but consider your customers needs. You carry some 600 channels, of which I can tell you some should not even be in your line up at all, but they are still on... Then take an important channel like The Weather Channel, and you people take them off because you can't agree on money. How about swallowing the cost and think of your customers first. I am in process of looking at other options, and should I decide on one, the money you lose coming in from me, will make it that much more difficult for you guys to raise the money to put the The Weather hannel back n FIOS. Come on Verizon....

I was out of town this weekend and got a chance to view TWC.
A lot of people complain about having to wait for their local area to come around on Accuweather.
Same is true for TWC. I was watching for my area and when I tuned in, they were on another area.
And of course there were the reality shows.
We all have our likes and dislikes.
And there is no way for Verizon to swallow the cost.
They are in it to make money (as are all of the other cable providers).
Each one has to decided what offerings at what price. Customers get to choose by moving their business where they want.

I too was out of town last week and elated to have TWC once again. It has strengthened my resolve to leave Verizon at the completion of our contract unless TWC and WeatherScan are returned to the lineup. There is NO other station that does what TWC does. My location last week did not include WeatherScan, but TWC has Local on the 8s without fail (unless it is during one of their TV shows later in the evening). The location for the forecast was not the VERY town I was in, but a nearby town that shared the same weather AND radar. The scroll also included pertinent traffic information all during the day which no other station does. During my stay, I had TWC on all day. I was once a very happy customer with Verizon, no more. Verizon FIOS has more undesirable channels than desirable ones. I will leave early next year unless this is resolved. Verizon Wireless will be the first to go - that contract ends next month and everyone in the household is on board with leaving. This is the most egregious business decision I have ever seen and it is costing them in lost customers. The fallout will continue as those of us approach the end of our contracts. The longer it goes, the more customers leave. Once I have left, I will not return. Please reverse your decision Verizon.

I agree with you....I want The Weather Channel back. I can't stand AccuWeather. I like all the different stories and the weather reports on The Weather Channel. I would pay more monthly to have it back.

Any comments, Verizon, or is this just a screw you to your customers?

FYI, these forums are primarily peer-to-peer. The Verizon moderators sometimes escalate specific types of customers issues to support and keep discussions civil, but Verizon never responds to topics here. You will not get a response from Verizon here.
Good Luck.

gs0b - I agree that we should have multiple ways to get weather information...but Verizon deleted one of our most important ways to get it. I have a weather radar on my computer, but it doesn't analyze the storm track or the intensity of the storm for me. I have to analyze it myself and determine if our house might blow off it's foundation. I am not Jim Cantore. After the lights go out I'll use the hand crank, but before the lights go out I would like to hear what TWC has to say. But of course Verizon customers no longer have the safety net called the Weather Channel.

Plumbago....why not use www.weather.com ? You can create a shortcut that will open the Weather Channel web site to your zip code and thus see weather info for your location at any time. You can also use the link on their website to "Weather In Motion" that will predict the path any radar provided weather may take.
I'm baffled with the addiction of posters here to The Weather Channel channel. I use their website all the time but their TV programming always had too much frivolous material for me. If I want to know if a storm is coming my way I don't want to have to watch 15 minutes of how the weather is on the opposite coast.
Different strokes, of course, but that's my take on this issue.

I hate, hate, hate, hate the AccuWeather Channel!!! Doesn't Verizon make enough money from us customers to work out a deal to keep the Weather Channel? Did I say that I hate AccuWeather Channel? Oh yes I did but I can't say it enough!

As soon as my Fios contract ends in September I am going back to Comcast. I can not imagine going through another snow filled Winter without the Weather Channel.

Sorry but I can. While I do miss weatherscan, channel 49, the Weather Channel itself was not worth the money. I could care less about the shows it had on. It spent more time showing useles shows rather than showing the weather. The loss of one channel, especially the Weather channel, is NOT going to make me run back to the WORST cable company on the planet, Comcast.
I give Kudos to Verizon over this, it is about time a cable company stood up to the greedy channel operators. Reading some of this one and done posts in this thread are really rather funny. Either they are not for real (which I am betting many are) or just do not understand how tha cable tv game works. Frankly I am tired of the high cost of cable, and the biggest reason for that is the CHANNEL OPERATORS and their greed.

I am so upset by the Weather Channel being dropped!!! I came back to FIOS and now this is how they treat their customers by having less than superior channels. This new one is a joke!! As soon as I make my mind up as to who will be replacing FIOS I will be canceling my service. I will also report to the BBB that they promised a channel and replaced it with a lower grade channel. WAKE UP VERIZON your not the only game in the ballpark!! You offer below average channels and your customers will leave for the better ones.

Contract allows them to add and delete channels at any time.
And given the fact that TWC is making substantial changes to their programming, it appears that more than Verizon has been complaining (IMHO).
I also heard that more regional infomartion should be coming available from Accuweather in the next month or two.

AccuWeather is weak. Three different panels flashing stuff at you, hosts wandering on and off set - it's ADD weather. And, during yesterday's storm, very little regional information about what was going on in other states. We would have had the Weather Channel on most of the day yesterday. AccuWeather - no.
This channel is not informative, and in fact, the programming is annoying. I'd rather use the Weather Channel App on my phone than watch AccuWeather.
Bring back The Weather Channel!
