I hate AccuWeather.......how come customers did not have a choice or a vote to keep The Weather Channel???? AccuWeather stinks, there are no REAL stories nor do the show any weather people out in the field......this is the worst, I watch the weather channel everyday. I might just think about changing my service to someone who has The Weather Channel!!! I hate this.....ugh !

The reason I think the Weather Channel is gone is because its owned by Verizon's compttior Comcast. Besides, IMO this Channel has as much to do with Weather as todays MTV have to do with music. Too many realilty shows. I wish FIOS would have bought Weather Nation instead. 24/7 "Pure" Weather. It was on WUSA 9's Digital Subchannel 9.3 with updates every 10 minutes by their local weather team. Even when it was on the National feed there were graphics with Washignton, DC area weather from various localities on the bottom.
But in DC we do have Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic on FIOS because either you watch the Wizards and Caps on that channel or you don't. So there's a double standard.

I agree that AccuWeather is a crappy and useless replacement for TWC, but statements that Comcast owns TWC is inaccurate. While Comcast invested $89 million in the the weather channel, TWC is owned by a consortium of The Blackstone Group, Bain Capital, and NBC Universal. When the TWC was bought out from its founders, all the meteorologists were fired and replaced by meteorologists from NBC.

Have copper with VZ, was ready switch to FIO from COX for TV. Not having The Weather Channel is a deal breaker. And Verizon does not seem to care what their customers want. Plus trying to get someone in tech support to talk to is impossible. Should pay money to have more customer support reps and less to the fat cats in the corporate office.

I really miss The Weather Channel, too. Had it with Directv but can't have a dish where I live now.

Can't have a dish because you can't get clear view of satellite or because you just aren't allowed?
If someone says you aren't allowed, FCC says they can't stop you.

With this possible monster storm, Matthew heading up the East Coast, there are MILLIONS of your customers that really need The Weather Channel. Isn't there someway you can get it? Possibly re-negotiate the agreement? I would be willing to pay more to get it.
It's times like this that I really am disappointed with FIOS.

Not me, AccuWeather has more than enough coverage. And count me out of the I'd pay more for the Weather channel, I already pay WAY too much and the Weather channel was NOT worth what they wanted. If they had just stuck to thier Weather concept rather than start with all the garbage programming I may feel different.

We came back to Verizon after being with someone else for a while. I see that the Weather Channel is gone which I'm not all that happy about and is why we had left Verizon FIOS for a while. The representative we had spoke with had hinted that The Weather channel may be coming back. Does anyone know for sure? To be honest, I'm not all that thrilled with this new weather channel Verizon carries. I miss the other programing that the Weather Channel has on it. I do use the Widget to get the weather on my TV but I'd really prefer The Weather Channel.

Thank you for the information CRobGauth. I don't even like the replacement they have for The Weather Channel. I hate having to sit through the entire scroll of the cities to get where I live. I've pretty much have blocked the channel since I find it useless. What a bore.

Please get rid of this highly boring and non-informative Accu Weather weather reporting channel. Please bring back the "Weather Channel". They provided everything in a timely manor and were very informative. Please hurry and make this change

It might not be obvious but the decision to drop the Weather channel was already made, when Accuweather offered to provide its channel for essentially nothing.
Getting rid of Accuweather will not bring back the Weather channel.

That just proves that you get what you pay for . . . Verizon paid essentially nothing, now we, their customers, get nothing in return! Accuweather is totally worthless, so that's what we're stuck with.

I turned on the TV this morning and much to my surprise, Channel 611 is back as WEATHERHD, aka The Weather Channel. AccuWeather is still on a different channel, but I have always liked TWC the best. When did they add TWC to the lineup?

I had Verizon FIOS years ago and switched to Spectrum after they dropped The Weather Channel. Then after reading online FIOS had picked back up I just switched back to FIOS, which is now Frontier FIOS. Is Frontier FIOS and Verizon FIOS the same company? Because I do not have The Weather Channel and even trying to tune to channel 611 it jumps from 607 to 616. While I was signing back up for FIOS I even asked my customer service rep if they indeed had The Weather Channel back and was told yes. My response was "good, because Accuweather was horrible!" If I can't get The Weather Channel on FIOS I'll be going back to Spectrum as soon as I get my new customer discount offer.

No they are not the same. Verizon sold parts of their territory to Frontier.

I am VERY unhappy with the choice of ACCUweather over the weather channel. Fios lately has become worse and worse with their choices and I am now searching elsewhere for service. This is ridiculous--accuweather is a joke..sub par at best! Verizon ask your consumers what they want!

I agree with all the complains about accuweather it's not local does not give local updates etc. Our contract is nearing its end. my wife was fed up with problems we've been having and wanted to change to another provider now I agree so we also will be leavingverizon
somebody that has no real experience dealing with their customers have made this utterly stupid decision to just drop a program and try to justify the accuweather as a great replacement. verizon will save money dropping this series but also will lose money when customers leave like myself GOODBYE FIOS

Yes, I agree that dropping The Weather Channel for Accuweather appears to be a poor decision.
I do however have one complaint regarding the Wether Channel's use of very load background "music". I like to preview the nex day's weather at night (~11PM) or the day's weather before leaving for work (~7AM). The background music during the "Weather on the 8s" and the Weather Scan channel are way too loud. It should be lower than the volume of the weather 'reporters'.
My three-year contract expires in May and I will likely switch to another 'cable' provider rather than pay $40 more per month for less!
Thanks.
