I hate AccuWeather.......how come customers did not have a choice or a vote to keep The Weather Channel???? AccuWeather stinks, there are no REAL stories nor do the show any weather people out in the field......this is the worst, I watch the weather channel everyday. I might just think about changing my service to someone who has The Weather Channel!!! I hate this.....ugh !

You can thank the FCC for this. Years ago, the FCC chose how Internet Service Providers (ISPs) would deliver internet service to customers. They (the FCC) essentially decided to re-create the "old Bell System" style of service. If you go back in time, American Telephone & Telegraph (AT&T) built a "single provider" service model also known as The Bell System. (Can you say, "monoploy?") It was a "closed system" and you could only get telephone service from AT&T and their wholly owned regional subsidery companies (Northwestern Bell, Pacific Bell, Southwestern Bell, etc.) The regional comnpanies had exclusive access to the AT&T Bell System. Even as a customer, at one point you were prohibited from adding a phone device in your home. (For instance, if you had a phone in your kitchen, you had to pay to have a phone installed in your bedroom.)

In 1982, the Justice Department decreed that AT&T had to relinquish control of the Bell System and allow other companies access. This led to the rise of new "carriers" like MCI and Sprint. Now, phone customers were allowed to choose their phone carrier and get service at a competive price, using the same system that had once been the propritary property of AT&T.

Now, wouldn't be nice if you had that choice for ISPs? Unfortunately for those of us in the USA, you have to lock in to an agreement with a propritary provider. While most of the rest of the world, gets to choose their ISP based on price and service level. They all have equal access to the entire infrastructure and can offer competive pricing and levels of service.

So, at you next opportunity, send a "thank you" card to the FCC for screwing the American consumer.

What does this have to do with the Weather Channel? If you want the Weather Channel, leave Fios and go to the provider you previously had. The Weather Channel will never return to Fios.

I agree! I don't use many of the channels I pay for but I do count on the weather channel. I am annoyed that the notice came from an address that doesn't accept replies and there isn't any place on the verizon website to tell them what we want.

I went to Verizon.com and did a live chat and expressed my extreme displeasure with them dropping The Weather Channel.  Not sure if my opinion goes anywhere where it is noticed by the powers that be but it made me feel better....

I did a live chat online on Verizon.com and expressed my extreme displeasure over this.

Sorry for the double posting--it didn't seem to take the first one and kept saying 'error'

PLEASE    PLEASE   bring back the Weather Channel.  Accu-weather stinks.  We live in Tampa and we also lost channel 49 which is our local channel....we so miss that too!!!!   Accu-weather is NOT working here to well.....no sound sometimes....pixels come and go (on HD and standard box) and no way to see local weather.  What in the world are you thinking of (we can understand contract problems, but?)....we didn't even have the courtesy of hearing about your dropping the station?????

I have NO WEATHER CHANNEL in my TV line up... one of the requirements I had for my Internet/TV provider was The Weather Channel and now it is dropped?  I am calling other providers in my area today, and broken contract or not, will be switching.

Verizon, this is a bait and switch tactic and BAD for business.  I'm out.

I really think if they modify the channels we are subscribing to, we should have a window to opt out of our contract after that change without a penality.

I'd like to know what happened to the 58 pages of posts and 571 posts in regard to Verizon dropping the weather channel. Where did  that go?

ABSOLUTELY! This is a clear breach of contract. I am fortunate I do not even have to worry about this, as my renewal date is mid-April. I was wondering why all of the pressure to renew. Now I know!

I am very unhaapy about the loss of the Weather Channel. Just watching a little of the Accuweather, I don't feel I will experience the same depth of analysis and expertise of reporting I have enjoyed with the Weather Channel. I certainly miss the quick update on the weather and radar map that I enjoyed on channel 49. I want the Weather Channel back.

Bring back the weather channel and stop insulting your customers with the nonsense about how everyone accesses weather using different media. If that were the case no replacement would be necessary.  Negotiate with the Weather Channel and bring it back.

Sometimes The Weather Channel is the only thing I watch!

Please keep negotiations going and bring it back to FiOS.

I'm lost without it.

Jim Cantore is the best to watch during breaking weather and love when he's ribbing on Sam Champion.
