This is ridiculous why should we get charged for a scam that VERIZON is aware of this is something the company should be dealing with. All in all I am not going to pay for some SCAM!! I received a phone call that lasted 12 seconds and then hung up. I am holding VERIZON accountable for any charges or anything else that this SCAM causes ... the whole purpose of making a contract with this company is for the customer to pay for his/her usage and we shouldn't have the need to worry about scams.
We have 5 cell phone, each one received a call from either a 473 or 268 area code all at the same time this morning! When we called Verizon the last time this happened they said there was nothing they could do to stop them. Maybe its time for Verizon to find a way to stop them! Between this and the NSA snooping, maybe we need to take matters into our own hands and just switch carriers!
All- We apologize for any inconvenience this matter has caused unfortunately we are only able to assist users at an individual level. Here is the official statement:
Calls can be blocked at a local switch level, but we have no "national" tool to update all switches in the country to block a number. If we identify the NPA-NXX range they're targeting for switch blocking, as soon as we block, the caller changes their number. Call blocking can even cause problems with our own switches if a significant amount of traffic is coming in. We normally advise customers to not answer unknown calls and to block numbers they don't want to receive calls from within their own online MyVZW account.
Thank you for your patience during our investigation into this matter.

I agree with your theory of not answering unknown calls & blocking the numbers, but if I'm not mistaken there is a limit of 5 numbers which can be blocked. How about removing the limit or at least raising it to a realistic number?
babs-12, we want to ease your frustrations. The security of your account is our first priority and we encourage you to take every precaution in guarding your personal information. Have you blocked that phone number online with the free Call and Messaging block feature? http://vz.to/MqEgqB

I have blocked all of the numbers from which we are getting calls...Grenada and Dominican Republic numbers. We've reached our 5 free block limit. What now? I'm afraid we are going to accidentally call one of these back and be charged a ridiculous amount of money for a stupid scam.
The last thing we want to see are astronomical charges on your bill stemming from a situation like this. If you're needing to add blocking international numbers, please check out our Family Base feature http://vz.to/1dJRZEC

Your suggested solution to blocking these spam/scam callers from a known area code is for the customer to pay extra for a service?
What VZW should do is allow customers to block calls from an entire area code (in this case, 473)
My wife rec'd one-ring calls from 268-762-0079 and 268-762-0159. She called one number back and rec'd a recording that said "Your call cannot be completed as dialed". I hope she doesn't get hit with a scam charge!
