Can the primary number/account owner leave a family plan and the plan remain active?

I have 2 lines of my own on my Verizon plan (one for business now and one personal) along with 3 other family member on it (5 lines total). I believe I will use my business line mostly so I opened a verizon line for that and a new phone for performance, but my personal line I want to keep open but on a cheaper line since I won't use it very much. I bought a plan with another company and am going to port my number over to my new plan, but I want to make sure I won't lose the whole family plan by removing the primary number/account owner's main number on the account.
