December of 2013 I signed up for Edge, trading in my Galaxy S3 for an iPhone 5c.
January 2014 I had the phone partially paid-off and wanted to "Edge Up."
I went into my local (indirect) VZW store, Cellular Sales, to edge up for a Galaxy S3 Mini.
They told me I had to mail in my iPhone myself, so they gave me the appropiate shipping tools to do so.
I decided to hang onto my iPhone for a few days to make SURE I was happy with my "new" S3 Mini.
The next day I realized how slow the S3 Mini was and I really just wasn't happy with it, so I went back into the Cellular Sales store to return the phone and swap it out with something faster.
I picked the Galaxy S4.
Probably a few days passed by and I was very happy with the phone until I noticed the camera started lagging. I called VZW and spoke with a very kind representative and she did everything she could to get the phone working properly (Resetting, turning on and off, etc etc) but to no avail. She advised me to just return the phone into the Cellular Sales store and get a new one.
Since I still had my iPhone 5c, and I was within the 14 days, I decided I was just going to return the S4 and get them to put me back on my original plan.
And as far as I know, they did just that.
I returned to them the S4 and they put me back on what I THOUGHT was my original Edge Agreement.
Come February, I decided to go online and order directly through VZW since I had such horrible luck with the Cellular Sales I just knew VZW wouldn't mess anything up.
I ordered an LG G3 online, paid for it and had it shipped to me.
I had the phone a few days and decided I loved it and wanted to keep it, I then called VZW to see what they wanted me to do about the iPhone (If i needed to mail it back, or if I could just take it into a direct store). The representative told me I was not on the Edge Agreement and that I had to return the LG G3 and get ANOTHER LG G3 to be put on my Edge Plan.
I was so upset that I drove 45 minutes to the nearest VZW store and returned the LG G3 and told them to just put me back on my iphone 5c edge plan and I would just stick it out until I had the phone paid off.
I have now been billed for the full amount of my iphone and there's no way I can pay over $400 up front.
Don't go with edge.
I'm leaving vzw as soon as i can.
You have swapped so many devices around I got lost btwn the mini and the S4.
If you signed up for an edge agreement in Dec 2013 for your iphone, that agreement would have been 50% paid in Dec - at which point it sounds like you did an Edge Up to the LG G3 - and requiring you to return the current Edge device - your iphone. You didn't return it, and are being charged a non-return fee.
I returned the LG G3 within 14 days & was placed back on my iphone by the store, who assured me that I had not violated my agreement since I was within the 14 days.
When you swapped the iPhone for the S3 mini you inactivated the original Edge agreement. You can't get it back. You should have sent the iPhone back. If you were at a direct store they would have taken it from you thus eliminating the chance of getting it back. You had started the Edge agreement on the S3 Mini then decided that it wasn't the device for you. That is ok. It happens. You got the S4 within the 14 days. All good so far. The camera issue could have been replaced with a brand new device at the location of purchase. I am not blaming you or the store but they shouldn't have activated the iPhone when you returned the S3 Mini. Within the first 14 days you pay the restock fee and change the device. After that, you complete the Edge agreement as required and Edge Up. The store should have informed you of that. Keeping in mind that if you were at a corporate store you would not have walked out with the iPhone.
