my old phone (moto G7) broke, so I bought a new one (similar but slightly different G7 model) and I transferred the sim card from the old one to the new one (which is unlocked). I then went through the process of transferring all my contacts, apps, etc., And everything seems fine except the fact I don't have any service whatsoever, and can't receive any texts on my old phone either. How do I get service on this new phone?
It's worth noting that my old phone is so broken I can't do much of anything on it. I was lucky if I was able to view texts to get confirmation codes when logging into things on my computer.
When getting a new device, it is recommended that you get the SIM card for the device as well. The old card is programmed for the old device, and not set-up for the new one. *Rhonda
Let's back up a few steps. Swapping SIM cards between phones would not be recommended, as that will not properly activate a new phone. You run the risk of locking the new phone and SIM card as an unfamiliar phone is being used, which can be seen by the system as a potential theft risk. When you have a phone to activate, it should be done through customer service, or through your own My Verizon account ( https://www.verizon.com/support/smart-setup/ ). A new SIM card would be recommended because this ensures that your new phone has the latest type of SIM inside, and avoids the potential for a device lock. Free SIM replacements can be found at any company store, and they can help with activating the phone too: https://www.verizon.com/stores/
