How do you reach a human in tech support?

It is disgusting the way Verizon has setup their automated phone system. Does anyone know how to reach a human to fix an issue with your phone?

I have an issue with my phone that I suspect has to do with the cell near my house. It seems like the only way to get someones attention at Verizon is to file a complaint with the FCC.

You call the right number and follow prompts? I don't get why people think there is some special trick. Some days are busier than others.
