I have had to upgrade to a bigger plan 8g per month because we went over. Mind you I am a stay at home mom. I use my home wifi. My son is at school from 7am-400 pm and has his phone off. When he's home he's on our home wifi. My husband is at work from 70am-600pm and on wifi at work then on wifi at home. We have our "mobile data" turned off at all times. I check my usage and some how my Dada is being used. I called Verizon AMD it was my sons fault. He used data on 01/18/2017 from 1215am-600am and used 2 gigs! In his sleep? Really Verizon? Your thieves!!!!! I started off with a smaller plan and as each month went by the usage became more and more which is obserd. My line shows I stream videos 50% I don't watch videos PERIOD! WR ARE DONE WITH YOU!

Having unexpected data usage is alarming, malindamunoz. I always like to know how I am using my data. Depending on your device, there may be a setting called WiFi Assist that is running. With WiFi assist turned on, when you are on WiFi and if you need extra data, that data will be pulled from your cellular allowance.WiFi Assist can be turned off by going to Settings - Cellular Data - scroll all the way down and turn off WiFi Assist.
You can see each lines data use and time on MyVerizon. http://vz.to/1JSoUdh

As far as using data in the middle of the night, I am sure your son is not using data. Our network checks in every 6 hours to make sure that you are connected to the network and your device is ready to use whenever you need it. That data usage is very small. It is normally around 0.012MB and is credited at the end of your bill cycle.
Data usage has been steadily increasing. It is not you or your family; it’s the content that has increased. We now have videos auto playing on Facebook and video ads. Before when we were surfing the internet and we saw a shirt, for example, we would click on it, and see a picture of the shirt. Now, if we see a shirt we like and we click on it, we see a model spinning around and we can zoom in to see the type of stitching used on the shirt. It’s incredible the information that we get on our phones.
We value your business and do not want to see you leave our family. I will send you a private message so we can go over the data usage or you can contact us directly. http://vz.to/2gW7PVG

Oh wow! I'm having The same problem. I'm feeling since Verizon started this new plan of there's and wer still on the my everyth plan..they are messing with our data to get us to switch to the new plan. But it's more money per line. We all are $15 a line due to either no contract or a trade-in discount to $15 for the other 2 lines. Since this new plan has come out we have gone over our data every month! I even went into cellular and made sure all the way at the bottom wifi assist is turned off. We make sure we double click and close all screens and use wifi everywhere. I'm 18 days away from the end of cycle. And out of 6 gigs only have 1 left!!!! I am furious!! It's showing my child is the one that has used 70% all by herself!! There is wifi at her HS and wifi at home and when we go out she always makes sure she is hooked to wifi. This is so frustrating I can't stand it!!!!! Oooooo!!!! Verizon not a happy customer
Yes i'm having the same problem.. Im connected to wifi - no apps are running- I hardly have any apps on my phone.. I have an old apple 4 phone.. no reason my data is suddenly being used-- huge spike in it- especially at 3:24 am?????? something is not right here
Verizon is horrible! Just read about how they do this to people then blame it on the customer. I will report them to the BBBB

I have NEVER had this problem with sprint. I've never had to go in and manually change my settings. This is UN heard of. And, as far as my son being on in the middle of the night YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE argued it was him doing a 2gig download. I don't feel safe with your company. I've had mine and my families "mobile data" off 24/7 in fear of getting a $6,000.00 dollar bill like one of your other customers. I shouldn't have to worry about going over of having my mobile data off 24/7 and not be able to use my phone outside of wifi. I've seen it happen way too many times with Verizon customers. I personally think this is just verozons way of ripping people off. I'm just glad I caught on in time. I did my research and to go through 2 gigs you'd have to be on the web for 60 hours straight. We don't do Facebook, vine, snapchat or twitter! Uhhhhh done I'm just wasting my time and wifi
You must force phone to use the WIFI connection in your home. I had this problem when I got the phone. All the setting were basic. Explain to a Best Buy phone saleperson about phone using data ALL the time. He checked General settings and switch it and now whenever I enter my house phone automatically switches over to my home network and no data is used. I'm only using 3 gigs of data on this phone (Iphone)
Yes, Wi-fi is connected to my phone as soon as I enter the home.. that's why this is so disturbing that data is being used at 3:24 am and when I'm home as I am connected to wi-fi at home
and yes my wi-fi assist is turned off.
The overnight usage might be the phone backing up contacts, files, photos and videos to the Cloud.
When I was using my Samsung Galaxy S4, I discovered that the backup wouldn't be successful if I tried to force it over WiFi. It will only work OTA.
Also, if the phone is set to automatically backup NEW content to the Cloud, that will, also, ratchet up data consumption.
As a test, check the data usage and then disable 4G/LTE every night before going to bed for, say, a week. In the morning, check the data usage total to see if it went up.
