I am looking for a basic phone for my elderly mother, who is hard of hearing and losing her eyesight. She needs one with large numbers and the capability to turn up the volume. We looked at the Jitterbug, but from what I can tell, it does not work with the Verizon network-is this true? Does anyone have suggestions? I talked to a representative on the live chat, and they had no idea. Thanks!
I am beginning to think there is no such thing. My mother is on my sisters plan with Verizon, we are all with Verizon but I am ready to switch just to accommodate my mother. No one that works for Verizon must ever age.......
The jitterbug phones don't' work with Verizon. LG Terra or the Samsung Convoy or Kyocera Dura VX are about the phones with the larger buttons and louder ringtones.
The jitter bug wasn't expensive at all. Yes it's another bill. But if u hvnt gone with Verizon. Which would be the better choice. But for twenty bucks a month. Now u would hv to check. It's been two years since Mom has passed. The jitterbug was awesome. She was happy. And that's what mattered. I'm an advocate in a way. I believe Verizon is by far ,the best phone service there is. But when it comes to Moms. Well u should know. Whatever it takes. God bless and a Merry Christmas to u and Ur family.
There are some basic phones that work on Verizon that would work - the trick is finding one, since they are older models, and not sold except as used or third party devices.
My Mom and Dad are in their 80's, Dad has had a Jitterbug for several years and it works for him; he rarely uses it but has it for emergencies, and the monthly fee is acceptable for the security of having that connection if he needs it.
My Mom has one of our older Verizon devices (VX5200), basic flip phone, and is on our family share plan. She's learned T9 texting and she and I talk weekly, and that works for her and for us. She insists on paying me for her portion of the bill, but having her on our family plan and Dad with the Jitterbug gives them each a cell phone for emergencies.
Mom is now wanting something with bigger buttons and better screen, but there aren't a lot of options out there for a simple, basic, phone with nice big buttons!
