I can't make calls or send texts!!! Help!

Every time I try to call someone the phone automatically ends the call before it trys to connect. I've even tried sending texts and the messages are stuck in sending mode. I still can connect to internet. The reception where I'm at has always been good. Today all of a sudden I can't make calls. On the status bar was 1x lite now it's grey and a slash through it. Its the only different symbol I've noticed.
