If I text or call someone not using Verizon as their cell phone carrier do I use minutes and or data?

Most of the newer plans have unlimited minutes and data.  Are you on an older plan or a pre paid?  The answer is yes, calls outgoing from your phone use minutes.  Texts do not use data unless theyare sent through a third party app (iMessages, Textra, etc).
