I have just been charged a reconnect fee for 5 lines for a total of 100 dollars. I have been a verizon customer for many years and have never received a reconnect fee.
I was under the impression that during covid the Governor of NJ has a mandate prohibiting disconnect or reconnection fees?
NEW JERSEY - New Jerseyans who have fallen behind in their internet and phone bills will not have them shut off, according to Governor Murphy.
"Today I’m signing an Executive Order to prohibit Internet and phone services from being shut off until 30 days after our current public health emergency has ended". announced Murphy. "This is no time for anyone to have their connection to the world severed".
In addition to prohibiting services being shut off, the Executive Order prohibits all "service downgrades, service reductions or late fees due to non-payment unless they are imposed in accordance with a policy approved by the Board of Public Utilities"
We understand how much every dollar counts especially with the pandemic, Ed754. Reconnect fees are never fun to have and we always want to do all we can to ensure these are avoided and your service remains active. We did provide a Stay Connected program that allowed service to remain active through 06/30/20. After this date, we did encourage reaching out to us to discuss further options. Had you reached out to our Financial Team regarding your past due balance before service was interrupted? Was there an existing promise to pay or payment arrangement set up?
An exclusive order doesn't change how automated systems work. Give Care a call and explain calmly the situation. You'll get a courtesy credit and all will be fine.
For the future, use a promise to pay to avoid it from happening, that works much better than the words of someone who has zero input on how a company operates.
