I upgraded to iPhone 6 but waiting around all day for FedEx (they won't leave an Apple device without a signature) wasn't an option, so I chose in-store pickup.
I was very clear and direct that I wanted my phone, unopened, so I could use my old phone, activate my new 6 at bedtime and do an iCloud restore. The rep insisted he was REQUIRED to activate my phone, thereby deactivating my old one. No amount of reasoning could dissuade him from doing it. I gave in, and several minutes later he returned with the phone and an armload of accessories. I politely told him I bought all my accessories on Amazon and didn't need anything he wanted to show me. Undeterred, he tried to show me an exclusive accessory unavailable elsewhere. This is when I politely but firmly told him that I detest Verizon, they already got a BS $40 upgrade fee and required me to have (useless to me) Verizon Cloud at $3 a month, I wouldn't give Verizon a dollar I wasn't required to spend and I didn't want to discuss it further. He then started asking me why I hate Verizon, was someone rude to me, did they lie to me etc. I simply crossed my arms and remained silent. Then he started in on plans. "You're signing a 2 year contract, have you considered EDGE?" This went on until he evidently gave up and decided his best bet was to get rid of me and hope his next customer was a sucker.
I don't want to be a jerk, and I know the guy was just doing what he was trained to do, like car salesmen, but I hope he understands that when he works for a sleazy, predatory, vermin-managed company that most customers loathe he's gonna have to deal with people who aren't happy to be talking to him.
If there's any way to avoid it, opt for FedEx shipping and avoid personal contact with Verizon salespeople.
