I will be traveling to Aruba on vacation, and wondered if I needed to add the Global Services Plan if I will only be away for one week? If I cancel it as soon as I return home, will be plan be prorated just for the days it was actually in effect? I may only use it for a few text msgs and maybe one or 2 calls back home to let people know we arrived etc! From some of the posts here, I'm a little leary of doing this, looks like it's almost impossible to get off once you add it! Maybe the 1.99/min isn't as bad as it sounds.. ?!

it it all depends on how much you are planning to use the phone. Generally these plans you keep for a single month so you get the full plan and not prorated minutes and data. The other benefit is it prevents a huge accidental bill, and for that it is worth it. If you accidentally use 20 MB of data, a really small amount, you will get hit with $400 charge without the plan. Removing it is easy, I do everything on MyVerizon. Remove it when you come back to be in effect the first day of the next cycle. My answer to everyone is if you are going to use your phone at all in a foreign country, get the plan or be warned.
That's what I thought! $40 seemed steep for a whole month's-worth of a plan when I'll only be gone for a week, but that is obviously far better than "accidentally" racking up a huge bill because I forgot to turn off the wifi, or using the maps/gps to find my way around unfamiliar roads!
