When I hit *86 to retrieve my messages from my home phone I'm suddenly asked to set up my whole mailbox again? Beginning with a language change. What is going on. The light is blinking so I know I have messages but now I can't retrieve them

We can’t have you missing out on the voicemails. What error messages do you receive when trying to set up the voicemail box? Is this with Verizon Wireless or Verizon landline account?

The message I receive is "To hear your mailbox prompt in English, press one." It's always been in English! I'm using the message board rather than a personal reply because it might help someone else.
I unplugged everything and took out the battery.
Can't follow through on a lot of instructions until tomorrow. Sorry.
