When on my verizon bill will it show that the line we just updgraded is a payment plan for the phone

How long has it bee since you've upgraded?  Were you in the middle of a cycle?  If so, that's probably why you aren't seeing it yet.  You should see updated info on your first statement after the cycle in which you upgraded.
