You'd need to breakdown the charges from the bill in line detail. When did you sign up, what plan are you on, which device, contract or device payment plan, how many lines, taxes, fees, upgrade charges, etc....
Keeping your bill under control is definitely important, so I completely understand how you feel. Is this your first bill? Have you had a chance to take a look at the detailed bill online via My Verizon? There you can see a breakdown of the charges.
