military discount for veterans not sincere

Wow – I just got off of a chat with Verizon.  They apparently discontinued a veteran’s (the account owner’s) military discount, despite the fact that, yes, he is still a veteran (you don't lose your veteran status).  He'd had the discount for many years - they probably don't want to honor the discount they were giving him, since what they offer now is less.  He went online twice (Sept, Oct) to reverify his veteran status, because they kept saying he needed to - they ignored his previous attempts at reverification.  They’re telling me (the account manager) he has to sign back up, and forego the discount when they gave it the axe, despite his efforts to reverify online when they asked.  Then he gets an email saying his “organization’s email” is not on file with them, and the website chat person was telling me that he needs to complete some Employer verification – he’s his own employer, he's a veteran - not an organization, so not sure how that works.  The chat person had no answer to my question on that, and basically wasted a lot of my time.

Received an email today (Nov 14) saying in essence how much Verizon appreciates veterans/active duty personnel - ha.  Just words, not meant sincerely.  Just a ploy to lure veterans as clients, and then be just one more “eligibility” rung for them to reach for, on a recurring basis.  Military veterans deserve better - they don't need to keep proving themselves to some callous organization.  Verizon's “respect, recognition, rewards” saying on their military discount page has a very hollow ring to it.

I want to ensure you get the support you need with re validating the military discount on your account, and I am here to help, vervet. I'm saddened to hear that you had difficulties when re verifying and can provide a link to help. We ask that all customers re verify once a year, this is a standard for all discounts, it is systematically implemented. We also accept ID, and documentation for veterans. For active members, we accept email, work pay stub, ID or documentation to validate a military discount. Let's ensure your discount is re added as soon as possible! Please use this link: https://www.verizonwireless-employmentvalidation.com/contactus to get in touch with our Validation team. Our specialists will be able to help you validate through an alternative method.

He already reverified twice this year, as I've informed Verizon in multiple chats, etc.  So he should try again?  Ha.  But pay the 2 month non-discounted penalty - right?  This is unacceptable treatment, so we are moving on.  Can't do business with companies like this - there are better deals out there, that will save him money even without a discount.  So weird that Verizon wants him to reverify his status every year.   Just wondering - at what point does a veteran stop being a veteran?  Since the answer is never, the reverification process amounts to a form of harrassment, in my opinion.
