MY daughter is in Puerto Rico and her phone says extended LTE. Is that normal and will she incur any extra charges?

No extra charges in Puerto Rico, it just means she's using another carriers towers that is within Verizons extended network.

If you don't mind me asking, what device does your daughter have? I have the Samsung Galaxy S4 and I was just there in Puerto Rico visiting my family and I had no 4G / no LTE service at all. I couldn't even get 3G to work on my phone or on my hot spot Jet Pack that Verizon swore would work there. Do you have to do anything to the settings on the phone to make it work in Puerto Rico? Anything I would have to do on the Jet Pack MiFi?

I would have made sure the settings were set to Global and also cycled airplane mode.
