Network Extender...not much extension....-103dBm

All new Verizon wireless account with 4 new smartphones in an area that Verizon "says" is a good reception area but was forced to try the network extender as too many dropped calls from home location. Just installed the new Verizon Samsung network extender. All led's are solid blue with the occasional flickering blue on Wan (normal). #48 tells me phone is registered to the Network Extender (although there is periodic break-up of voice when the recording is rolling). Distance from extender is 6 feet or less during phone testing; at a distance of 24 feet, the phone drops the network extender symbol and #48 no longer acknowledges extender. dB readings before and after install: 3G  -104dBm, 1X -103dBm; 3G -103dBm, 1X -104dBm. Is this a bad extender - are there other tests for the extender to see if it's functioning properly? Is it possible to adjust signal strength output of this device? There appears to be an hdmi (?) port on the bottom of the unit - What is that for? Would a signal booster be a better, although more expensive, alternative?

I too was told the same thing and had to purchase an extender ... I have problems also but Verizon says I am having packet losses from the internet service and that it is not my extender. But in your case, probably a different problem, such as the extender itself.

Typicaly you need to be witin 15 feet of the extender to initiate a call for proper registration to the extender. These extenders are quite weak and have a limited range as well as they do NOT pick up a call that is in progress when you get in range of the extender.

Bizzareone and Drumforu bring up great details regarding the network extender. I'd be concerned with a network extender that wasn't working optimally. Just to make sure, Gbsportsman, have you tried configuting the ports through your router? This allows all the necessary bandwith to go through for your extender to work at its best.

Yes, tried configuring ports...unfortunately, that did not help the situation. I have already sent the extender back for refund.
