Well it's been a Week since I got my New Scanner and it is Doing an exceptional Job all the Way around of what i expected it would do Keeping me a little more informed on what's on around me as my Radios have done in the Past.

I mentioned listening to a Scanner was one of my passions on here)  but there is something I like just as Much and it's watching YouTube videos of Trains especially the Older one the one's that Ran the Rail before most of us was born well except for Mr. Elector you Sir probably seen many of these in your younger youth, And you may have been a passenger on one of them,  if you were I'd like to here the stories of it.)  The neat thing is some of these Giants are still around Running the rail when there not in there protected shop buildings.. I rather see em this way as to rusting away at some memorial park

One of the Giants and i Quote it is the Biggest steam Engine to ever run the Rail in the Mid West and the Mountains and that's Union Pacific's Big Boy it will be a woken again in the very near future, This giants is going to be restored by UP's Steam Crew.. it is NO. 4014 it's out in California now but the steam crew will soon move it to it's new Home Cheyenne,WY one of UP's biggest yards and the and the Home to the Steam Program..

One's that would Like to Follow the progress on 4014 can look here as I will post a Link or you can Go to YouTube and just search U.P Big Boy 4014 restore and it will bring all up that is available on it's progress and when it's done and it's smoking down the Rail you bet there will be a Following young and old and when it come to a Town a town the Crowds will be Big..

Here is 844 she's the speedy little Girl in UP.s Steam Program she can Reach Speeds up to 120 miles an Hour but U.P. wouldn't push that speed as she's to vital to the Steam Program..

Ha ha no just Amtrack is the train I ride on. However in the series "Men that Made America" on the history channel show how the railroads got their start. New York Central train yards are in my area. In fact in my home town train traffic old and new have been here longer than my time on this earth.

The railroads were destroyed by John D Rockefeller and his standard oil pipe line. The Carnegie Steel now US Steel used railroads as their customer and as a customer. Carnegie Steel changed the rails to a better more stronger rail system that the railroads use today.  Many years ago the railroads went belly up. Today CTX moves products from hazardous chemicals to government missiles. Times have changed I must say.

You might be surprised how many people do care about some of these kinds of facts. I have a passing knowledge for some areas of interest. Since UPRR and BNSF are in my area, I know more than say the east coast railroads NS and CSX.

Speaking of New Mexico, did you know one railroad is building a new rail yard in that state?

Miss Ann The biggest Rail yard in this Country matter fact the biggest in the World is Bailey Yard in North Platte but in it's time "hay day"  I'll call it the Yard in Cheyenne could do Quite a bit including Tearing Down a Full Locomotive Like Big Boy, Challenger or any other for that matter and were talking Manual Labor that isn't seen to much these Days I've watched one of Videos that proves just that,

This is that Video that shows Many of Great things that went on at these shops and the Guy in the overalls that Talks about the Yard is Steve Lee He has many years under his Belt under his Belt one of which was running both steam engines 844 and 3985.. which are still in Running condition today.. Oh yeah, I have seen videos on YouTube too. The state of the 3985 is in serious overall mode. I doubt it could run at the moment.

Well the yard is certainly not as it was back in time and if it possibly was 844 and 3985 and 4014 would be up n running Daily but new era's change the times and Maintenance cost on the steamers is what Doomed most of them but I've never seen a company as Old as UP have the Heritage Equipment they do and for the age of the fleet they're kept in tip top shape.. No company i know of even comes close them..

To move onto 3985 the state of engine is not to good it actually happened when the crew was performing maintenance hopefully they get it fixed but I think there focus is on 4014 and getting it to Cheyenne but I don't know if the'll get it done this year, On your last post I heard a piece on it in the News or on Radio. I'll have to Google it,  see if I can find any info on it but what sparked my interest in trains was seeing them going down the tracks when i was 5 years old I had few sets 2 of them being Lionel Steam sets with all of the accessories.

Boy If i had a dollar for all the one's I had I'd be rich as they'd been worth some money now had I kept them all, but you know how kids are with changing minds, For me when i hit my early teens CB radio was hot and it got my full attention, I still liked messing with my Trains And i had a 2 small sets but my mom and Dad said you need to focus on one Hobby and stay with it. So there I was.. Those sets got sold to further my hobby in CB but a few years later and burned out from the crap that CB radio can bring I sold that equipment and moved over to Listening to the scanner.. And I was set for there been listening since 1987 started with VHF then UHF then 800 was coming into the scene and know it's mostly 800 Digital but there are some Analog that is still around..
