I've been faithfully paying almost $10 every month for insurance on my daughter's Iphone 5C. Well, after over a year of use, she dropped it and shattered the screen. I went to the Asurion site and filed a claim, but it requests that I pay a $169 deductable to replace the phone!!! A new IPhone 5C on the Verizon page is only $99.00. Why does this make no sense to me?

The $99 price you see on a new phone is the subsidized contract price. Full retail is several hundred dollars. In that regard, the deductible is a better deal. If you didn't have insurance you would have had to pay full retail to replace the phone or find a used one from a 3rd party. It sucks but you can't look at the subsidized price and compare if you aren't eligible to get that price at the moment.
