Has anyone else had their plan changed without requesting a change? We have been with Verizon since 2010. We have been on an older 8GB plan, with a couple added 2GB / month "for life" bonus promotions since 2016. Recently we requested a data boost to add an extra 1GB for the month. We did not receive the high speed data we paid for, although our account showed that it should be available. When I called customer service to get this addressed, they were able to get the data applied, and told us that the charge for the data boost would be removed from our bill since it was not effective. This was exactly the resolution I had hoped for. However, when I checked to verify that the charge was removed, I realized that our plan had been changed to the Unlimited Plus plan, at a cost of almost $80 / month more than we had been paying. I never asked for, nor authorized this change. I called customer service again the next day. While they were able to switch our plan back to the 8GB plan we previously had, I was told that the bonus promotions no longer existed, so could not be added back on. So now we are paying the same amount for only 2/3 the data. Their response was that we could switch to the Unlimited Welcome plan for only a slight bill increase. That option would result in decreased streaming quality as well as losing the ability to use our phones as a hotspot. We should not have to pay more for what is for a lower quality service. The customer service rep suggested that I could watch for loyalty discounts in the future that could help decrease the cost, but they didn't have a loyalty promotion to offer today. I was told that she was working with a supervisor, and even the supervisor had no way to add back the data to match the plan we previously had. I would really prefer not to switch from Verizon, but I'm so irritated. Our plan should not have been changed without our approval, and the customer service rep I spoke with admitted this. I feel like this was done intentionally, as they have been trying to push us to an unlimited plan for years. Are we the only ones who have been forced off an older plan, or lost promotions that were grandfathered into their plan?
