Phone was purchased several years ago. Cannot get through to customer service or technical support. Stores say they cannot help.

Did you buy the phone as the original owner through Verizon? If not, trying to get a carrier phone unlocked can be a pretty difficult issue because the history of the device can't necessarily be traced.
If you are the original owner and have abundant proof of purchase, send a private message to @vzw_customer_support.

Thank you for the reply. I thought Verizon was only supposed to lock phones for 60 days?
I might be able to get purchase information , but I am not sure how to private message.
The phone was given to me by my mother. I think the phone came with her Verizon plan.

You're welcome. Yes, the device unlocking policy states that Verizon gadgets are locked until they are used for at least 60 days on Verizon, then they are supposed to automatically unlock. However, there are definitely instances in which it doesn't occur. Since your mother is the original owner of the phone, she will have to find the purchase details from her account or elsewhere and ask Verizon to unlock the phone. If you try asking, you could run into resistance since the purchase is not tied to your account.
I've seen cases where carrier phones were purchased from some 3rd party source such as Best Buy, and then there appears to be no way to get the phone unlocked. Don't know why. If all else fails, your mother will have to file a complaint with the FCC to see if the phone can be unlocked.
As for how to private message someone, the envelope icon at the top right is the private messaging section where it works like email.

It is always good to know your options. That is correct, our phones are only locked for 60 days. After they have been active with our service for 60 days they are automatically unlocked.
