Still no referral number a month after cancelling landline

I cancelled a landline number a month ago & Verizon still hasn't added the referral number to the cancellation message.

I've called 3 times & gotten the sale response "Must not have gone thru". 

But they "did" cancel the number in question, and  all you get is "this number is not in service".

Each time I call they even tell me  the correct "referral" number that is supposed to be after the "not in service" 

message. 

 I absolutely believe they are punishing me for cancelling.

Terrible customer service.
