Verizon Gave My Active Number Away

Sunday afternoon and I’m trying to text my daughter in law and get a  failure to send. A message stating my iMessage was not activated, but it was. After another family member called me and some random male answered the phone and advised that he purchased a phone through Straight Talk this afternoon and that’s the number he was given….he was given MY ACTIVE phone number that I have had for over 10 years. I tried chatting with Verizon and at 10:30 pm they said for me to call Verizon port center! Really? I live alone and it’s 10:30 on a Sunday night and some random male is receiving and reading my personal texts from friends, family, and business associates. I have business cards and run a business with this number. What a joke, after over 4 hours of trying to get my number back, they want me to contact them on Monday. Utterly disgusted! No I was not behind on my bill, no I did not authorize Verizon to port my ACTIVE number to Straight Talk or anyone else. It’s interesting to me that Verizon cannot provide support via their online chat for their error, but I have no doubt that they will be ready to collect my monthly payment! I need my number back. Completely disgusted and feel as though my privacy has been breached.

Is the telephone number that was ported a landline or a Verizon Wireless mobile phone telephone number? 🤔
