Strange. I've never seen such a thing happen in the past few years or at all in all the 20+ years I've been a Verizon Wireless customer and even briefly an AT&T customer in 2011 (Alltel merger time frame).

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

It's something with Verizon carrier phones called the Verizon App Manager.  Part of the carrier software which of course can't be uninstalled with carrier phones.  You have to disable the Verizon App Manager every time a software update comes out to prevent it from downloading extraneous apps.  My guess is this is like an adware for which 3rd party companies have paid Verizon to promote content and that's how it gets done.

The only way to get around such bloatware is to buy factory unlocked phones, but OEM unlocked phones or even carrier unlocked phones from elsewhere may not run all the features a carrier offers.  And if your phone starts acting up, no carrier will troubleshoot an unlocked device for you.  Cuts both ways.
