$20 Increase is a slap in the face to Loyal Customers

First let me start by saying I have never had a problem with Verizon Wireless. My family and I have been apart of Verizon for over 10 years and never even toyed with the idea of leaving Verizon. Today I read an article that grandfathered in unlimited data plans are getting a price increase of $20. This absolutely set me off the edge. I recently just upgraded my old iPhone 4S to a 6S. I spoke with a Verizon rep to weigh out my options and they informed me to keep my unlimited data, I will need to buy the iPhone 6S outright. Because I take good care of my phone, I went with this option. Now to find out I am getting a price increase? This is enough for me and my family to leave Verizon for good. If I am being forced to limit my data and get locked into a contract then I will be doing that with another carrier.

You aren't being forced to limit you data and get locked into a contract. Not at all. However, Verizon can charge what they want to for their services. You are not under a contract for the fee schedule. It's really that simple. Verizon says that unlimited data is now worth $50 per month.

Essentially they are trying to lock people in. Mainly they will make a case that it will be cheaper for people to sign the contract and limit your data than to pay the $50 a month. It was easy for me to figure out it was cheaper to buy an iPhone 6S outright in order to keep my unlimited $30 a month plan, then it would be for me to buy an appropriate contract that limits my data.

With how fast internet is getting, it is crazy that they're saying that their data is worth MORE. It should be going in the opposite direction. $20 increase on top of a $30 plan is quite the price increase.

They don't want you on unlimited data. They say if you want to keep it this is what it will cost now. If you don't want to pay that then find some other plan that will suit your budget.

Nobody is forcing you to do anything. There are lots of other choices available.

pherson, I know that it frustrating that lots of people are complaining about how Verizon wants to charge for their services. I get frustrated too when people think that they have a right to something when they don't but we have to be nice to people still.

It may be that simple but what tclatcher is saying is, it's crap that people have been with Verizon for so long and now are phone bills are going up when essentially they should be going down,  This is clearly Verizon 's way of getting people off of unlimited data.  I myself have been with Verizon over 15 years, we have 5 lines with them and pay well over $250 a month, and I agree that apparently being a LOYAL customer accounts for nothing. I will also go with a different cell phone company, even if I have to lose unlimited data. It feels as though Verizon just doesn't give a shit about it's customers who have been with them since the beginning and quite frankly that's very disturbing.

High prices for data is plain and simply just corporate greed.  They tell us they gave us shared data because thats what we wanted, but paying $30 for unlimited for each line is still better than paying $100 for 10gb.  If they charged a $1 per gig perhaps that would be fair, but anything more than $1 a gb is a ripoff, corporate greed, and taking advantage of cell phone popularity.

I think the ultimate goal is to dump the plan.  This is just pushing people off it.  But since we're on month-to-month contract, they can change the price anytime they want as long as they give us a month warning.  We can choose to go somewhere else if we want.
