3 lines: Mother died in June 2023: Why can't I cancel her phone?

Hi,  I am perplexed. In February 2023 I added my mom's phone to my plan. She and my dad had had a Verizon Wireless plan for over 20 years. My dad died in 2022. Mom had no problem canceling dad's phone. When mom came to live with me,  I didn't want her to have to pay for anything, and transferred her phone to my account. I have been paying $139.00 (3 phones including hers) her phone for over a year. It isn't even charged and hasn't been used since she entered the hospital in March 2023.. (Oh, I just received an email saying that our automatic pay $10 discount will end so we should pick a My plan.) I refuse to take my mom over to a new plan. This is becoming insane. When I transferred her, a lovely woman from the corporate office did it for me. When mom died in June  203, I responded to the last email that I had received from the corporate office lovely woman named Theresa. I attached her death certificate and told Theresa that I wanted to take her phone off of my plan. I did receive a response. Another woman named Theresa told me that she was not the original Theresa but would be happy to help me. I responded and asked her if she received the death certificate. She said that she had. Since she had what she needed that I already sent electronically, I asked her if she could call me so that I could talk to her about what I needed to do. She could not call me, but did give me a number so that I could call her. I did and did speak to a woman who said that her name was Theresa. When I told her that I would like to cancel my mom from my plan. She told me that I couldn't. I did question her, but she kept telling me that mom had to stay on my plan.. So, being the dope that I am, I have been paying for my dead mom's phone since. Today I was talking to a friend who said that she canceled her husband's phone after he died. When I told her Theresa told me that I could not.  My friend got all upset and told me of 3 other mutual work friends that had canceled a dead family member from their verizon wireless plans in the past year. Today she came to me with 2 more friends who told me that they canceled their dead family member's from their phone plans. They both said that they only had to provide the death certificate which I did and will provide again if needed. Does anyone here know why I can't cancel my dead mom's phone from my plan? This is getting ridiculous. Thanks very much for your advice and input.
