Can't Close My Account?

I switched to Tmobile two months ago because Verizon could not solve an issue. The short version is someone messed up my account when they switched the account to just me and it is now in a forever "stuck" type of state.

I spoke to multiple customer service reps, who in turn spoke to their supervisors and managers and no one knew what was wrong or could fix it. It was escalated to engineering twice and the problem still hasn't been fixed. The 2nd or 3rd rep I spoke to said she had escalated it but I would need to follow up to see if it was fixed; they wouldn't contact me with an update. I tried to port my number over to Tmobile and they showed it ported; Verizon said it was still theres. I was not getting text messages from Verizon users on Tmobile, which is how I found this out. Tmobile gets kudos because they did their best to try and fix the issue, but it wasn't something they could fix since the problem wasn't from their side.

I contacted Verizon to disconnect my line because the port over wasn't completing. They said they couldn't disconnect my line at this time, the system won't let them. They would need to escalate this to an engineer. I contacted them again still trying to disconnect about a week ago and they still can't disconnect the line, system won't let them. They said they'd escalate to an engineer again. I asked for an update yesterday and they said nothing yet and they would follow up Friday.

The account is still open and I am being charged. You did issue a credit for my last bill, but am I going to keep getting billed because you can't close the account?

Who can resolve this for me at this point?

Maybe T-Mobile needs to assign you a new number and cancel their port attempt. Then once the system clears up, you can try getting your Verizon number ported.

Verizon doesn't usually prevent ports unless. Do you owe them any money? That would be the biggest reason Verizon may hold your number.

That is horrible. Contact your federal representatives. Verizon gets paid without giving you service?

I  have the exact same problem. I have been on the phone back and forth between tech and customer service. No one will help me.  I am so disgusted. They have made several tickets. I finally decide to switch and now they say my account is "stuck" and they can't cancel it? That is illegal They have no problem billing me but otherwise my account is stuck? They have escalated it and tell me I need to call again tomorrow. This has been going on for weeks! Someone needs to fix my fios residential account and cancel it so I can be done with verizon.

I had to call the Attorney General's Office for them to do an investigation for Verizon to finally close my account after a full year.
