What's up with the data plan? Not only is it overwhelmingly over priced, for those who can't afford unlimited because of the new price hikes, running out of data seems to be more punitive than anything. Almost as if Verizon is forcing its customers to buy the more expensive packages.

For Instance:

When i was using Straight Talk I got fairly decent LTE speeds, but once you hit your data cap, the speed was limited. The limitations however, would still yield basic search requests (like directions) fairly well.

When Verizon drops you to lower speeds you cant pull up ANYTHING. Most of the time the response is "no connection, slow connection, or connection lost."

Why is it that come  service can provide me with faster, less-than-LTE speed than Verizon? Seems a bit mind boggling. Everyone thought at first when Verizon offered Unlimited for $110 was a pretty good deal. Now its just ridiculous. Verizon as company basically corners that market and their customers get nailed for it. If you're like me an my family we've been stupid enough to finance a phone through you so it doesn't make much sense to drop you considering we have phones to pay off and they'll just be sitting around getting no use. [removed] Bad play on Verizon to jack prices up like this. People shouldn't be paying almost $200 for cell phone bills before they even get to line access and using their phones.

FIX IT.

I pay nowhere near that amount....

You pay for what you choose. Verizon doesn't choose a plan, phone, or features for you and they also don't tell you what phone you HAVE to have..... These are all choices you make along with the amount of data YOU choose to use. It works this way no matter the service provider.

It is generally up to you what you and your family choose to consume, and if you are paying too much because the consumption is too high then lower the amount of services you have chosen to use. This might mean not watching Youtube videos on your phone while waiting for the bus, or opting to not surf social media for an hour after work, or might even mean not choosing to finance that new Iphone X the day it came out.

Pick a lower allowance-based plan and don't use as much data if it's too expensive. The same goes with everything in life. Pick what you can afford and if you can't afford what you want, then make some changes.

Verizon didn't "jack up prices". You increased your consumption.....

First and foremost, inreally appreciate that you assume I’m an idiot and have no clue how data consumption works. That’s good stuff.

byt yes they did home their prices. What was the price of unlimited when they rolled it out in 2017? $110. There was 1 unlimited plan.  Their current price for the basic unlim plan is now $150. Hmmm oddly enough that sure seems like an increase in price. Oh wait, thats a $40 increase. Their super duper package starts at $170. Now that’s a hike of $60. Crazy how that works. Then all craziness happens if you’ve used a certain amount of your “unlimited” data which is really a term that means unmetered because if you exceed a certain amount of data on a congested tower, guess what happens to your service? Oh that’s right it gets deprioritized.

Verizon‘s 8 gig plan one year ago... oh wait wasn’t there. You had 6 and 12 gigs. 6 was $60 a month, 12 was $80 a month. I liked the 12 it was well suited to my needs considering My family used right at 10.5 - 11 gigs a month, because we know what Wifi is. Now let’s look at the 8 gig now,  which, $110 a month? Not a price jump? But they will make you a killer deal by dropping that to 96 a month if you use automatic payments. So you end up paying between $16 and $30 more a month for 4 gigs less data than offered a year ago.

Wanna know what’s really gnarley? My family used right around 12 gigs last month. Crazy!!! No price hikes? My consumption went up marginally. But hey I just don’t know what I’m talking about. Thanks for being the keyboard warrior that had to correct my poor spending habits. I’m so very appreciative.

$8 gig is $70 what are you talking about?

I’m talking about the pricing I get right now through Verizon. When I go to my Verizon through the app it quotes me at $110 for 2 lines. Why so much difference between one line or two? It should be a flat rate. I all for saying “hey one device shouldn’t pay that much,” but why charge more for more lines on a set amount of data? It makes sense for unlimited, but not for a data tier less than unlimited.

The Verizon plan for 8 GB is $70 for data and $20 for each line for $110 for 2 lines. 6 GB was $60 plus $20 per line for 2lines is $100. 12 GB was $80 for data then $20 per line for $120 for 2 lines

I need back my limited data plan. No slowdown..

The new unlimited is a sham . Embarrassing slow speed.  What a mistake .I  have been a longtime customer .  Now I have been duped by a company who really doesn't care if data goes to non productive levels that stifle production and wasting my time

Sounds like you are on Go Unlimited in a congested area. You weren't duped you failed to read the terms of the plan. Either bump up tp Beyond Unlimited or go back to your old plan as long as it is the 2, 4 or 8 GB New Verizon Plans. Or switch carriers

I have two phones on my account , one I need and use the unlimited data package. The other phone is for my child who does not need an unlimited data package but verizon forces me to purchase one. I would be absolutely content with the 2g package for that line wich only cost me $20.00 for the data. But no, since I have an unlimited package on my personal phone they force me to by an unlimited package on the second phone wich raises my bill $ 70.00 for something I dont need or want. 

My next step is to contact the better business bureau and a lawyer. Verizon better take note about Apples recent loss in court about forcing products on its customers. I feel a large class action lawsuit coming soon. My bill for two phones is over $200.00 and my phones are paid for. If the data package wasn't forced on my second line my bill would be a reasonable $130.00 a month.

You can get an umlimitd plan and a tiered data plan but it would be more than $20 for tiered data. Not sure where you get that. 

Also 2 lines on Go unlimited does NOT cost $200 it's $130 plus atxes/fees which should be any more than $10 or perhaps $15. So at most that's $145 not $200. Anything else is something you OPTED to pay extra for.

 

Also the BBB will do nothing. They are not a regulatory authroity and have no power. Also getting a lawyer will do nothing. You have no case. What is the basis of you case? That you can't get a tiered data plan and a unlimited plan? Well you can.

Anyway I see you have not checked into the new plans at all. because if you wanted a tiered data plan for you child well here you go $120 total for both if you have 2 lines

Verizon has kid plans for $35 per line, with limited data (5 gigs) 

BBB?  For what?  You chose to use Verizon, you picked the plan   You can put your kid on prepaid for far less, and lower your bill.

Well if one wants an unlimited plan like Beyond or Above then there is no prepaid version of those.  But yeah they can get unlimited and the 3 GB plan( actually 6 GB with the current promo going on ) for $80. I'm just currious to how they are paying $200 for 2 lines.

There is no reason not to put the kid on prepaid.  The parent can stay on postpaid for full benefits.   

$80 for mom, $35 or $45 for the kid.  Total before tax $115 to $125.   

 It’s the suggestion that a Better Business Bureau complaint will do anything. Verizon doesn’t choose the plans for you, you choose the plan. If she is added stuff to her plan the cost her $200 a month that’s not Verizon‘s fault. It’s been pointed out repeatedly that it’s impossible for two lines on current plans to cost $200 if the phones are paid for.  

I noticed that particular poster has not come back. Possibly has figured out that she was incorrect and that she can reduce the cost of her child’s line.

Said lawyer would have better luck convincing people Diet Coke is healthy.

Fun fact, you CAN have two plans, it's not always cost effective. This is called a sub account split. Doing this would have two side effects -- your line will be $80 instead of $70 each and the other line would also have single line pricing. Assuming you did this, that is $80 for 1 line on Go Unlimited and $55 for 2GB ($35 plan + $20 line charge) This is $135 separate bills vs 2 lines on Go Unlimited for $140.

You get exactly what you are asking for. Up to you if that $5 bucks is worth the trouble. Actually, if you did autopay + paperless, you save $5 per line making both lines on unlimited $5 LESS than nuking data.

A) The $110( $100 if you had auto pay and paperless ) was for MULTI-line plans plus $20 per line. The single line plan was  $85 total( includes line fee ) or $80 with autopay. This plan is no longer offered

B) You have 2 choice for unlimited Go or Beyond. We have 3 lines on Go pay $150. taxes and fees total $13.

C) If you don't like Verizon pricing there is at&t, t-mobile or Sprint.

T-Mobile advertises unlimited for $80, Verizon matches it with Go Unlimited and Beyond is $10 more. Carrier prices aren't as dramatic as people make them out to be with social media.

I pay for the 2GB plan since I have WiFi everywhere and that is $35 for the plan before discounts and $20 per line. Three lines puts base service at $95 with the rest being device payments - something that'd be the same regardless of carrier.

Service cost money, you can't expect a nice cut of steak for the same price of a McDonald's cheeseburger.

for the record T-Mobile's One plan is $70 ( for 1 line )which includes taxes fees. Go is $75 PLUS taxes/fees. One plus is $80 taxes/fees includes. Beyond is $85 plus taxes. And while Beyond has 15 GB hotspot and One Plus only 10 GB their deprioritization level is 50 GB for BOTH plans vs 0 GB for Go and 22 GB for Beyond. Also video is 1080p for beyond vs 720p for Beyond.

All that being said in my areas( like mine ) t-mobile's network is meh at best.

My beef about Verizon plans is that t-mobile upped their deprioritization level 2-3 GB every 3 months from 22 GB-36 GB until last fall when they upped it from 36 GB to 50 GB. Unlimited has been around for over 15 months and it's still 22 GB. If Verizon wants to say how it's network is the best and is so superior I find it odd they can't up the levels even ONCE in 16 months. It should be 35 GB by now. And of course it's zero for Go and their hotspot throttle is barely better than T-Mobile and their 15 GB cap on Beyond is barely better than t-mobile and their video throttling is worse than t-mobile. That doesn't scream out "superior" network to me.

yes Verizon has better coverage for now. A si said while T-Mobile's coverage is meh now. they recent got permission to move 2 tv station early and one will be moved by June 1st the other one August 1st. So very shortly they can deploy the 15X15 600 MHz they have in my area. At that point they will be pretty much equal to Verizon and I'd have to decide if paying extra to Verizon for what will then be equal coverage but worse features Is worth it. And I live in a rural area. I can see within the next year Verizon having another Q1 2016 again except it won't be just one quarter unless Verizon decides to actually start competing on features and/or price.

I agree with you! I was paying for Boost Mobile when I was a delivery driver. I was with their 3G data plan per a month for $45. I used my data constantly and rarely ran out, when I did go over they would throttle my services, but I was able to use the GPS with little to no issues. Also, social media websites like Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest would still work. The only issues that I had were with Netflix and YouTube.  When I switch to Verizon wireless because they offered their 3G data plan for $40 per a month plus they had the phone that I wanted, I noticed a major difference with their data throttle. I no longer have the delivery job anymore, but I seem to run out of data much quickly. How was I able to do 25- 40 deliveries per a shift and rarely run out of data with boost, but my data doesn't last 3 weeks with verizon? When verizon throttles data website and search engines are a pain to use! It's not about people who notices the indescrepencies are trying to be "cheap", it's that we notices that verizon wireless is giving false advertisements. Plus, I never been with a prepaid phone plan where I can't reach customer service and actually talk to a live person over the phone.
