let me provide an alternative answer with step by step walk through:
If you are interested in making your own ring tones, you will need a
WAV/MP3 file editor to begin with if you want to make them from
existing files. I have seen online solutions for this, but I do not
prefer them myself. ( I use cool edit pro 2.0 )
There is
a tutorial online for this, and I know they are ana1 about posting
third party links to help users with their problems; which is sad by
the way.
Go to funformobileDOTcom and click on tone at
the top, and then on the bottom left of the page under HELP CENTER
click ' make ringtone, then ' How do I make mp3,mp4, wav ringtones.
It
will literally give you a step by step walk through on ' how to make
your own ring tones ' with pictures and a link to a free program to do
so.
Their setting are a little different from what I use
as far as saving the mp3 file specs, but it will work... but let me
test it first LOL.........
Ok, I checked out the program,
and please be sure you choose ' save as ' and make a new file name and
save to location; such as the desktop so you can find it easier
Click the pull down box under the name and choose mp3
So, you do not have to go past step 6 since you want a mp3 ringer
ALSO
please keep anything used for a ringtone UNDER 39 seconds of the file
will be converted to a crappy sounding .QCELP file or similar.
You can email these to your phone; number@vzwpix.com
ENJOY
some alternate settings I choose are: converting the file to mono, and setting the mp3 properties to 64kps ( 32000 ) will make a truely awesome sounding ringtone

Is there any way to move a file into a ringtone without incurring data charges? I have no problem creating the files, and I have no problem uploading them onto the phone. So how do I get them into the ringtone menu?
It seems silly to have to e-mail myself and get hit for data access charges when the file I want to use as a ringtone has already been uploaded to the phone.

Send the tone to yourself as a TEXT message (phonezoo can do this as well). A sound file sent as a text message does NOT generate data charges. When the message comes in and it starts to play, click options (right soft key) and choose SAVE AS RINGTONE.

I wish this site gave me a clue how to post an originbal message...
Anyway, I have a Samsung Reality that does NOT use MP3, and I want to upload a ringtone. I have editied it to 30 seconds and have converted it to a file that my phone should recognize. How do I get the phone to ask if I want this as a ringtone???
Thanks for the help.
