What happened the caused the file to become corrupted? If you were rooting or otherwise modifying the system directory of your phone, then the situation would not be covered by your manufacturer's warranty, and you would need to pay for a replacement yourself.
First, you should contact Verizon and see if you are still under warranty. If you are, and the techs there cannot help you, they will probably start the warranty replacement process (unless the malfunction was caused by the user).
Do you have insurance? If so, the cost to replace the phone will be the deductible on your policy, I believe it's around $90.
If you don't have warranty or insurance available, you can look into purchasing a new or refurbished phone from Verizon at full retail price (which is generally around $600 for a brand new smartphone). Or you can try to get a used replacement from your local classifieds, Craigslist, eBay, etc.

You should also check the Droid 2 forum to see if a similar incident as occurred to anyone else.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.
