Horrible coverage at home and near kids schools

Hello,

I get 1 bar around my home, which is a densely populated area in Silicon Valley, and coverage is even worse at our elementary and middle schools nearby. This is a serious safety hazard as we canโ€™t call our kids after school to arrange pickups or update plans. The other major carriers also have poor coverage in our area. I talked to the city and they said to speak with my carrier, so here we are. Please advise next steps for the area near Valley Ave and Crestline Rd, Pleasanton CA 94566.

As a father myself, I can certainly understand the safety concerns, Pjalfrejd. You mentioned that this is happening around your home and near the schools. How far away from these locations must you travel before the service improves from these locations? When did this issue first start happening?

Honestly, it has been this bad for 12 years. And I have tried multiple carriers and nobody has good coverage here, even though the maps say itโ€™s the best coverage. Everyone blames the city for not allowing towers, but I contacted the mayor and she claims to have never seen a proposal to add more towers nor denied any such proposals. The range of poor coverage spans about a mile radius around two schools and a large park that hosts many sports events. Yet another safety concern there as an injury with poor coverage might mean a delay in reaching help. Anything we can do to assess and possibly fix this?

If nobody has decent service regardless of carrier, the infrastructure must be lacking for wireless service.  Don't know what the regulations are in your area regarding whether or not towers can be built (some communities have aesthetics requirements, so cell towers cannot be built, but equipment is then mounted onto buildings or cleverly hidden away).  Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but the carriers don't own their towers or "cell sites" as industry insiders call them anymore; they are all renting them from somebody else.  Anyway, this sounds like something to be brought up with your local elected officials to see if more wireless resources could be built, as there would have to be a bond fund created and voted upon by your community to approve such construction?
