My phone doesn't have any cellular phone functions...but it CAN send text messages and access data. Has this happened to anyone else? I've gone through three Samsung Galaxy S5's in the past three days, the last two have this problem and the first stopped working all together. I've had new sim cards put in, ive done hard resets on the phone, i've rebooted the phone, done battery pulls, and tech support has reset the signal to my phone. Nothing has worked. (I just "upgraded" <- lol.... and my old phone IS turned off.)

I have a Iphone 6 and it was working fine until two weeks ago when it stopped receiving or sending calls. All other features work, I have been to the Verizon store 5 times and restarted everything, new sim card, worked with support tech, been to Apple and replaced to a new phone but it still is not receiving or sending calls. I get a fast busy signal when calling out and if you call me it says my number is disconnected. I can even Facetime! Any clues?

I also have the same problems with the S5. Originally I thought it was possibly water because it got splashed on the counter. Even told them so @ our store. However after reading all this..... can do everything except make/receive calls. Verizon sent me an email saying they're checking into it but haven't heard anything back. I actually thought they had good Customer service until now. Good company gone bad????

I too am having the exact same issue that many here are having. I've had the s5 for 12 months and It's always worked great. Starting this morning I can't make or receive calls including checking my VM. I can send and receive texts though. I've tried all the suggested solutions in this thread to no avail. This is my work phone and I need it to work! Should I take it to my local Verizon dealer?

Update: After a sim card replacement, my phone has been working fine. Although, it still randomly crashes as it has from day 1.

I just started having the same problem yesterday afternoon. My S5 has worked fine since I got it, and fine yesterday morning, then all of a sudden can't call out or receive calls. Tried calling tech support, after 2 hours no success. Rep was nice but said he never heard of this problem before....but sounds like this is a pretty common issue.

3 days of no service is too long! We know having a properly working phone is important. Lets get this resolved. What is the current software version on your device? Go to settings>about phone>software. What happens when you attempt to place a call? Do you receive any error message? How many bars of signal are displayed on the device when this issue occurs?
Thanks,

This just started happening here too. About a week ago with an s4 that has worked for over a year. All of the same lame 1st level solutions. Why don't Verizon give us the ability to unlock the service mode so we can diagnosis ourselves. Now with lollipop the phone can't even be rooted. This is ridiculous. I'm not going to buy a new phone because some guy wearing a Polo shirt tells me it's the phone. Really? Is that the extent of your technical knowledge? Stop treating us like we are all idiots.

Let's make sure we take your support to another level, millercrew. Since this is a rather large posting regarding an S5 with more than a few concerns expressed, can you tell us specifically what is happening with your S4? We want to be sure to find you the right resolution so you have a working phone.

@VZWSupport, To follow up on my issue. I was able to test my SIM in another phone and calls went through just fine. This leads me to believe that the issue is not network related, but a hardware issue.

To everyone else having a similar issue. VZW was investigating the problem for three days and tried to tell me it was a network issue. They told me I lived in a poor coverage area. Not the case, as I'm in downtown Chicago.
I did some of my own trouble shooting, I pulled the SIM and tried it in a different device and it worked flawlessly.
End result is VZW is sending me a new phone.

To the support:
Can you revert the prl to a previous thru a push to my phone? My wife's phone is identical with the exception of the prl. Was this updated with lollipop? I'm using 15414 and she is 15379. Her phone works flawless. Mine has picked up the verizon network intermittently when in nearby areas and I was able to make calls again but then returns to unknown network when on the move again. Nothing is consistent. Sometimes in global it will pick up verizon network but not in lte/cdma and majority of the time I have to be in lte/CDMA just so data still works but network will still say unkown with no phone capabilities. Our signal strengths are identical. Her phone is always in global with no problems. I've done everything under the sun. I replaced both internal antennas last night and nothing. I really think there is a config issue because it sees the tower. One of the tools I used was saying an incorrect configuration on the phone. But with the phone locked down, troubleshooting is very limited.

To continue, Verizon told me Thursday night they are sending me phone overnight. So, I figure they send it out Friday and I get it on Saturday. Well, waiting and waiting. Check online, expected delivery Monday night by 8pm. Meanwhile,
I had to pay over use of text messages on my last bill.
If my husband's phone did not work when changing numbers, resetting phone after every possible solution for over 2 hrs. Thurs night does not work, why does changing out the phone become the solution? Now I see new posts from LG and iphone users.... my husband and inlaws coverage seems to be dropping off left and right this weekend. When is Verizon going to figure out something is wrong with their network?

It seems as if you've been hard at work trying to discover a resolution, millercrew. Thanks for your efforts. The PRL (Preferred Roaming List) ID on the phone isn't necessarily tied into a phone's operating system update. In fact, the ID you gave for your wife's phone should automatically update to the one on your phone simply by turning the phone off and taking out the SIM for a few moments. When the device powers on it will reach out for any network updates, including any newer PRL (15414 is the most current for specific plans as of June). It's definitely not recommended to take the phone apart and replace the internal antennas though, as this may cause irreversable damage and voids the warranty. Instead, try placing your phone into Safe Mode http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-111483 to confirm there are not other external factors (such as the apps that may be different in the devices) that may be creating the difficulties on your phone.

My S4 has been useless for over a year because of verizon's network and they did absolutely nothing to help. I had to buy a new phone outright just so my phone plan wasn't a complete waste.
To prove it's not a phone issue but a hardware issue, find a friend who has Tmobile and put their sim card into your 'useless' phone. Try and make a phone call. Mine worked perfectly fine with a friends Tmobile sim which proves that the phone is still capable of making calls.

Finally gave up. Bought another phone. The old phone would show 0's for the Sid/Nid and would hit the Verizon network periodically as I traveled but revert back to no service shortly after. I give up

Yes! I'm also having the same problem with my Galaxy S4. I have full 4G signal but can make.receive calls. I can surf the internet all i want and sent text messages. I have tried factory reset (x2), removed SIM card and resetting the Verizon APN. Nothing has worked. I have geek squad insurance and they want $150 to replace it. I have only had the phone for 13 months. I'm going to get a new 4G-LTE SIM card tomorrow and see if that works. Not sure what else to do at this point.

I am having this same issue with the S5. Factory resets, new sim card, some "area programming" (that's what the guy at the store called it), nothing has worked. I'm a Realtor so my phone is my lifeline. The "just buy a new one" option that they gave me at the store last time is not what I want to hear. I dont have an extra $500 to replace this thing. This started around the first week of August with just not receiving some calls and has progressed to now not receiving or being able to make any calls. If you try to call out it sits on the dialing screen and just times itself out. Worth noting my voice mail notification is also not going off. From the list of zip codes people have posted (I'm in 14807) this looks more like a defect with the device software.
