I have a VZ Jetpack 4G MHS291L
Why does it keep shutting down on me? I'll be using my Ipad, go to the kitchen for a drink, and when I come back it's offline. I have no way of knowing either as the light doesn't stay on. I can't tell what signal strength I am receiving without starting it up all over again. This is a real pain in the butt.
I can't find anything in the settings to change this either.
The hot spot I had before this always stayed online and lit up so I could see what was going on.
Please, help before I throw the darn thing out!!!
Thanks
Eileen

Is the unit getting very hot or is the power button feeling like it is stuck? Any firmware updates for it?

Hi, Thanks for replying.
No the unit doesn't get hot, power button isn't stuck either.
Yes, there was a firmware update this week. But it didn't fix the problem at all. It has been doing this from day one.

One way you can tell if the Jetpack is completely shutting down or not is to try to reach it's administration interface. http://192.168.1.1/ . You can obtain the login information from the Jetpack by looking at the Wi-Fi password option in the menu, usually.
If you can reach that and log into that, yet cannot get to the Internet then there's a chance the cellular radio is going dormant and not coming out of it. I've had this happen with 3G Novatel MiFi hotspots when the unit is dealing with a terrible signal.

Then pull battery and Sim carefully if that doesn't help
