I have been a VZW customer for several years and I was satisfied with my service for the most part My problem is with the advertised More Everything Plan. I had planned to switch and persuaded a friend to switch as well, but when I tried to change my plan online I ran into trouble. When I chose a basic phone, the website defaulted to the M.E. 700-minute plan for $25/mo, which is fine, but after searching for a couple of hours, I couldn't find any details as to what is or is not included in the plan.
Thinking that there might be a problem with the website I tried the online chat feature but the rep I connected to insisted that the 700-minute plan doesn't exist. Huh? Just to be sure, I called a VZW store and was told that all no-data phone plans had been discontinued and that ALL calling plans included a MANDATORY data allotment. However, when I spoke with a sales rep on the phone I was told that the More Everything Plan for basic phones is $40/mo, and includes unlimited talk and text and no data. Really? There is no mention of this on the Verizon website.
So far, I've gotten four different answers to my question. The website still shows the 700-minute plan but Verizon employees in different departments are denying its existence. Why can't Verizon get its story straight? Why not put the correct information on the website for all to see and eliminate confusion and frustration? My friend has given up on VZW in frustration and is looking for another carrier. If this continues, I may join him.

to me, it appears that there is a 700 minute plan for basic phones for $25, and it includes 700 minutes of talk time. that's it. no data. no text. also, it appears that this price is only if your are purchasing the phone on the Edge plan. otherwise, it looks like it's $35/month. i got all the way to the checkout and it was about $33 ($8/month for the phone i selected).

The More Everything plan for basic phones with 700 minutes of talk time DO include unlimited texting.
"The MORE Everything Plan offers Unlimited Talk and Unlimited Text. If you prefer basic phones, you have the option to select a 700 shared minutes plan."
Notice it does not mention anything about an option to go with metered texting, just minutes.

Yes. I did mention that the plan still appears on the VZW site. I could probably just sign up and gamble that it will work out for me. But experience (and these forums) has taught me to be cautious and to get it in writing. Perhaps it's still early but has anyone noticed that a Verizon moderator has not responded to to this discussion? We still don't know exactly what the terms are and Verizon isn't telling.

The 700 minute plan with unlimited texting and no data for basic phones has been available since February. It's not going anywhere.

Really? How can you guarantee that when Verizon won't? If it's all the same to you, I'd rather iron out the details before I sign a legally-binding contract. How many posts have you read where the writer is complaining about a contract issue after the fact? If Verizon isn't forthcoming, I guess I'll have to move on when the time comes. Just business. Nothing personal about it. Loyalty is a dying concept, apparently.

Most of the time those contract disputes are on the basis they didn't look at their receipts. They choose to do it online and not print documentation. If they went into store everything is on the long receipts customers get. Sometimes people don't understand and the reps answer correctly, but the person doesn't understand until after the fact.
I remember one time this guy walked to a T-Mobile store the person was explaining their EIP. I understood it, but the guy didn't. Couple hours later he was back in the store livid...
Honestly do it in store and have the receipts that's in writing.

That was my plan until, as I stated, the store rep told me that the plan had been eliminated and refused to sell it to me.

Well technically you can't guarantee Verizon or any carrier will keep ANY plan for ANY length of time so you might as well not have service with anyone. It's available NOW. So you go ahead and get it. If they take it away then you can leave and get service elsewhere. Simple.

Verizon by their contract and by contract law they have to give you something equal or greater value for the contract to still be in effect. If they give you something less than that you can leave without a termination fee. Keep in mind as long as you are under contract you are protected. Upgrades are not under contracts. Upgrading gives you new contract and new terms and no guarantee on future upgrade.

Well the OP seems to be worried if he signs up for a plan Verizon will take that plan away. I think we both are in agreement he has nothing to worry about.

Verizon employees are clearly marked as such. No mystery. Go to Verizonwireless.com. Mouse over SHOP then mouseover PLANS & SERVICES the click MORE EVERYTHING then scroll down to you get to Build Your New Plan choose BASIC PHONE scroll down just a bit and you'll 700 Minutes for $5

Verizon DID get it's story straight - it is on the website site as rcschnoor pointed out: 700 min and unlimitted text for a basic phone (with NO data) is $25/mo.
Now as to why 3 people gave you 3 other answers, that is harder to explain.

My point, exactly. Do I blindly put my faith in a online offer with no details and no confirmation? Or am I justified in being skeptical when no one at Verizon seems wiling to clear this up or even be on the same page? What would you do?

As long as you stay with this company, they will keep doing the same thing to you over and over. This is corporate thievery of the highest order. The customer service is abominable. Just an awful company. Counting the days until the contract is over. This is a wireless company with which I will be "one and done." Never again.

It will cost me $2000 to get out of my contract. If they would take back the phones and cancel the contract, I'd be gone in a heartbeat. If I could get the termination charges down to $1000, I'd be gone in an instant. I would GLADLY pay $1000 just to be able to leave Verizon and never come back. I just can't afford $2,000.
