Its a complicated situation, and depends on what model phone you have and how bad your screen is broken. There are built in features (in some android versions) that let you mirror your screen (Wi-Fi direct) to other displays (like Miracast receivers and supported TVs), there are apps (like Air Droid) that let you project your screen to a computer monitor when connected by USB cable, and there may be other apps that might let you project your phone screen to a computer over wifi or bluetooth connections. With some tablets you may be able to tether your phone to the tablet, and access the services on the phone (you might have to install the same apps on the tablet). The question is - is your screen functional enough for you to navigate to the areas you'd need to in order to enable those features or download those apps? If you have a new HTC phone (owned for less then 6 months) then you may be able to use HTC's advantage program to replace your screen without cost.

You can also sync your messages to a tablet or Windows 7/8 computer if you're using Verizon Messages as your texting app (with the default Integrated messaging enabled) on your phone, and also download & install it on your other device.
