VzW is changing its wireless plans again, effective August 13, 2015.  Note that "All new customers, and existing customers who want to move to the new plan, will buy or upgrade to new smartphones using Verizon’s device payment option, formerly known as Verizon Edge, or by paying the retail price.”

I don't see the $40 access for the in contract line dropping to $20 until it's out of contract

That's why I said what I did earlier ... I'm wondering if one of the "some restrictions" for existing customers is that you can't switch to the new plan until all the lines on your account are out of contract.

Well if customers are using Data like my phones are and I'm not doing anything Different that I was 6 months ago in the last 3 months my Data use has went to the Moon and back Last month I used 13 GB the month before I use almost the same when I was only using from 4 to 6 that's big change and for some one not Unlimited that can add up Very Quickly in Price Hopefully these plans come with some good Data choices

Sounds as if there are plenty of good scenarios with this and a handful of bad ones. Lots of numbers crunching to do for some folks!

It seems the general rule is if you have smaller amounts of data, the new plans are a better deal, but those with larger buckets of data it is a worse deal.

Don't forget when comparing contract pricing with these new plans, they do not have the payment price of the phones in the plan.

Oh yeah, I bet many folks will forget to factor that in! Very good point.

It would be nice if Verizon would simply say: "If you like your plan, you can keep your plan; if you like your phone, you can keep your phone".  If they only said that, I'm sure they'd have to keep their word.

They DID say you can stay on your plan. Heck they still have 30% still on Nationwide 3 years after Share/More Everything was introduced. That doesn't mean you can still get a subsidized phone. A 2 year upgrade is not part of your plan.

Hey zz99, I'm about 99.99% sure that Froido was just making a joke.

even if he was way too many people seem confused about these new "simpler" plans. Short of saying "here phones and service are free" I don't think Verizon can ever win.

Good point, but despite all our best efforts there are just going to be some people that none of us will be able to explain this to adequately. It would be nice if we could though.

I really hope this means that a single line plan will now be given the same "respect" as a More Everything plan was and not continue to be treated as an already discounted "loyalty plan" not eligible for a military discount. I always felt as if I were being punished for not having more than one phone.

This does not seem like a good deal at all.

First the S - M - L - XL are too small to fit those definitions. I am ok with small as minimal 1 GB, but M should be more around 5 GB, L around 10 GB, and XL 15 or even 20 GB.

The continued $15/GB overage is disappointing.

If I was on the 10 GB plan with 2 tablets, and 3 smartphones, that would cost $145 with More Everything, but goes up to $160 on the new plan

With my actual current plan of 30 GB, 2 tablets, and 3 smartphones at $185, I'll be hanging on to that as long as I can until something better comes along.

Other than killing off contracts a disappointment. We will need to be adding 1 additional smartphone  in the next several months, I wonder if I should add it now so I am not forced to change plans when I add it later. It will be a BYOD device. Any advice?

Yeah, only way I will change is if they will offer me a higher plan than what I already have, that I got a year ago this time, 30 GB for $130.00....not as good as the unlimited but close, still saving $95 a month on this plan and using every bit of data with 4 smarts and 2 tabs and the tabs are stricly wifi, I need close to 60 or a 100 Gb and then I can add a couple more freinds that are begging to be with mine already. but I am tapped out... bummer they ended that sale so fast or I would have upped it to the 100 gb.  It was a year ago next month, and strike lightning twice, Ill be ready and waiting if they do lol !!!

So right now, I'm paying $175 for 5 lines and 15GB of data (5 x $15/smartphone + $100 for data).  Under the new plan that I saw, I'll now be paying $325 for the same amount of data (5 x $20/smartphone + 5 x $45/3gig data).

How is this an improvement?

It doesn't work that way. The data is shared, so it is $45 for 3 GB data shared among all lines on the account.

The closest to your current is the XL plan - 5 phones x $20 for access, and $80 for 12 GB data shared.

$180 total.

So for you $5 more and 3 GB less data.

I think larger plans are available. They are not advertised, you have to call.

there are larger plans other than the xl plan  they are not avertised because majority of cusotmers use from one to 12 gb a month   there will be larger plans available if needed

How is that even possible? How are you paying $175 for 5 lines with 15GB and I'm paying $147 for 2 lines with 3GB? What the heck?

He is out of contract and all his phones are paid off.

15 GB is $100

Each line of service is $15 x 5 = $75

I have 30 GB, 5 lines of service (3 smartphones, 2 tablets) and pay $185, taxes included

30 GB was on special for a short period of time for $130

access fees: 3 smartphones out of contract, fully paid off $15 x 3, and 2 tablets x $10

I also get 13% off the $130 as a company reduction.

You can get good deals with Verizon, but you need to understand how they work, grab the good deals when they come, and hold on to them as long as you can unless something better comes up. It also means not getting new phones all the time, and considering buy your phones outright. In the end it is cheaper, sometimes much cheaper. Being on the roller coaster of wanting new phones every 2 years is what keeps people's prices high. You have to pay for that phone one way or the other.
