I keep reading about if you are currently under contract that you can switch to a new data plan but will continue to pay the $40 access line charge. However, I currently have 2 smart and 1 basic phone that I pay $10 each for line charge. If switch to new data option will those phones continue to be billed at $10 until the 2yr contract is up?
This new plan will definitely save is money as we are on a $50 month for 700 or 1000 minutes and also $10/month for 1000 texts which would be erased since the new plans include talk & text. Although we will probably lose out on the 15% discount we get which is only applied to voice.

Are you on an old family plan? How much do you pay for data?
the new plan would mean 2 phones at $40 and one at $20 , plus a data plan. If you choose to upgrade, you must use the device payment plan.
CRunch the numbers to see if it is really a better option.

Yes, an old family plan. The 2 smart phones are under contract and the last one was upgraded last year and we still maintained the $9.99 line access charge. That's why I was hoping that if I was able to upgrade the basic phone tomorrow, which also is being charge $9.99 line access, that I could swing an upgrade and keep that $9.99 but only if I am able to do it tomorrow.

Oh, we are paying $30 for 2Gb on each smart phone which we are both light users so we could probably get away with the 3Gb for 45 or stay with the 4Gb total for 60 but that's would be throwing away $15 a month for something we never used yet.

SO, if I have the totals correct, you pay $90 before tax with 4 GB of data on lines 1 and 2. And the one basic line, you want to upgrade to a 3rd smartphone and add data. Total would be $120 before taxes.
The new prices are based on service only. Phones have to be purchased at retail, or with device payment plan. Your service only price for 3 smartphones and 6 GBS of data ( If you are upgrading from 3G, to 4G LTE phones they use more data). $60 for 3 lines and $60 for 6 GBS of shared data, total $120 before taxes.
Cost wise it's a break even in the long run, but you get unlimited talk and text. Sounds perfect. Break down the cost of the phone you pick for the 3rd line. You might have a device payment under $20 a month, which would make a 2 year upgrade a bad idea.

No, currently it's $141 (actually $141+tax due to discount).
2 smart phones $10 each = 20
1 basic phone $10
Text $10 x 2 = $20
family talk $50
data $30x2 = $60
So that's $141 with 15$ discount on data + tax
Now if I can keep my $10 line charge until my contracts expire it would be
3 x 10= $30
3 GB data $45
total of 75 + tax
Not sure why your saying the phones have to be bought outright or financed as that does not start until the 13 Thursday. I should still have the option to buy phone tomorrow on a 2 year contract. even their website still allows it. My only purpose of this post was to find out if I am currently paying $10 for line access if I would still fall under that price if I buy a phone tomorrow since I bought a phone in January and my $10 line charge stayed if it would stay tomorrow also. Then on Thursday all bets are off, that I understand.

Let me explain those numbers a bit.
From what I've been reading VW is allowing people to start the new data plans on Thursday but you would still have to pay the line access charge until your contract runs out for each device. So if that's true, if I upgraded the basic phone tomorrow and then jumped to the data plan on Thursday I would avoid the $30 for each line for data. The basic phone user would not use the data at all so it would still be 2 users accessing the data and since we've never gone over 2 Gb combined then the 3GB would be fine (for now).

IT seems we won't know for sure until the 13th.
I Don't want any changes, my bill would go up.
SHared data is usually a better deal and should work out because you get talk and text also.

It won't work that way. Any phone under contract will have $40 monthly access, not $20, and certainly not $10.
The 15% discount will be on the data charge, or $6.75 off the $45
With the new plan, if you buy phons before Thursday and switch later, I expect your charges to be:
3 phones x $40=$120
3GB data $45-$6.75=$38.25
Total before taxes $158.25, so more than you pay now.

That 3 GB of data for $45 is on a Shared data plan. You are not on a shared data plan with those $10 line access fees. To get the shared data, you have to move OFF your old Nationwide plan onto a More Everything plan. Line access fees for lines under contract on More Everything are $40/line. So NO, you will not be able to keep your $10/month line access fees if you want to share data.

Are they still calling it More everything? With the "sizes" of data pools, I was expecting "Size matters". Or something.

Given how folks get confused at times by way of similar products and names: S would be the plan for Galaxy owners, M for future Android users, L for current Android OS version users, and XL for Xtra Loyal customers. Sorry iPhone users, no A plan.

I think it is "Super Mario". Nintendo is getting into the data game...next size up is Donkey and then Kong.

It would be the XXL plan since somehow Apple devices use the most data in some people's theory.

The old Nationwide Plans had the employee discounts reducing the Voice plan portion of the Family plan. Sometimes the individual data for the account owner's line could be discounted depending on the employer's discount agreement.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.
