No phone service at home

I've been a happy Verizon customer for 12 years.  I'm not very happy now.

A couple of months ago, my cellular service dropped off the table.  No phone calls can be made, nor received at my house.  I'm fine outside my house, but no go at home.  For information, I have an iPhone 11 and a limited data plan.  I was on the phone with tech for over an hour, and they did a bunch of setting and resetting, to no avail.  They also report no service issues in my area.  My wife's iPhone 13 shows the same behavior.  She went to the Verizon store where they tried to sell her an extender which she didn't take the bait for, but they did sell her an iPhone 13 thinking the 5G would solve the problem.  It didn't, and she's in the same boat I am.  I switched to wifi calling and my service is flawless, but I have a couple of concerns:

  • How does wifi calling affect my limited data usage?
  • After I switched to wifi calling, several of my apps, like Apple maps, ceased to work.  I turned on cellular roaming and got them back.  How will this affect my usage?
  • I don't want to have to turn on wifi calling every time I get home, that's more of a pain than I'm willing to put up with.  Any ideas?
  • What will Verizon do for me to get me on an unlimited plan, seeing as how their service at home is nonexistent?  Is there a retention department that I can call.

My son gets great phone service in my house, but he's on TMobile.  Before I make the switch I want to exhaust all possibilities.  I'd rather stay with Verizon as he reports drops in rural areas, but it's more important to me to be able to make and receive phone calls at home.

Any help is appreciated.

We're sorry to hear that you're having problems at home. It sounds like Wi-Fi Calling is working great for you. We recommend you keep using Wi-Fi Calling. You don't need to worry about turning it off and on, you can simply leave it on and it'll choose the strongest signal between Wi-Fi and your cellular service. Wi-Fi Calling also doesn't use data, so you won't need to worry about that. We hope this helps answer your questions.

Thanks for the quick reply.....

Does turning on cellular roaming cost?  I know cellular doesn't, but I remember back into the days that cost when you roamed.  I need for my apps to work, and Apple Maps didn't work on wifi (albeit a rural area), only when I turned on cellular roaming.  I get a great cellular signal elsewwhere with no dropouts (which is why I'm trying to make Verizon work, I've heard of rural dropouts on other providers) even in rural areas. in central NJ.....yes, there are rural areas in NJ!

That is a great question, pkaytes. I know I would want to avoid any extra costs myself. To answer your question, the only time you would have additional charges for roaming would be travelling outside the US. Does this help to answer your question?
