No service or terrible reception

As with so many others, reception on my Pixel 3 and my wife's Samsung has dropped to zero bars or one bar. Any attempt to use cellular service (and yes, I've tried on 5G, LTE,  etc) gives me a "No Service" message. I can use wi-fi calling, but then why have a cellular phone and plan? I've read and followed all the suggestions  I can find on the Web, down to  Safe Mode starting and a total factory reset.  The huge number of people who have suddenly experienced the same problem  suggests that this is systemic,  not individual.  Verizon, if this is not fixed within two weeks I'm going to another carrier who actually provides the service I pay for.
