Number transfer

I have an iPad 13 Pro inch and it wouldn’t allow me to transfer my Verizon phone number for my iPhone 15 Pro Max. Is there a way that I can transfer numbers?

We want to help with your transfer. Just to be sure, are you trying to use your iPad as an actual phone where you can call and text, or are you trying to activate it as a connected device?

My iPad shows on the my Verizon app as not registered and the iPad has a completely different number.

Got it. It sounds like a new line might have opened instead of replacing your iPhone 15. Please keep in mind that if you activate the iPad on the iPhone 15's line, that iPhone 15 won't have access to calls, texts, or data anymore. You'll also only be able to use data on the iPad since tablets are not able to make calls and texts on their own.

We're sending you a Private Message so we can gather more details.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but a tablet line, while it has a "phone number" associated with it (because the network wants texting/data lines to have a phone number in order for the device to operate on the network), said "phone number" really only has data capability?

If this is the case, then the reason why a tablet line can't be transferred to a smartphone or vice versa is because the tablet line only does data and the phone needs to be able to make regular calls which don't require a video app.

I was able to transfer all my stuff from my previous iPad to my new one and everything is working fine but I don’t understand why I can’t put my phone number on my iPad

If you are transferring a tablet number from one iPad to a new iPad, that's OK.  But you can't put a iPhone number onto an iPad because the iPhone is able to make "regular" voice calls which don't use the internet.  The iPad, while you can make video calls, can't make voice calls, so putting a smartphone line onto a tablet is either going to break things, or else people will be calling the tablet and wondering why nobody answers.
