I have been looking forward to the env touch since it was confirmed around 3months ago, my contract has just ran out and I decided to get online and order it, so once I got on to order it said to talk to a online agent, I thought, what's the harm? So I went on to talk to her, I said I was interested in the env touch and she went on to say other phones and then before I ordered she said that there is a 9.95 a month data plan required for the env touch, I was in shock and confused seeing as how its not a smart phone, so I questioned her about it and her answer was that it was "advanced", if that was the case I wandered why I didn't have to pay 9.95 extra a month for every phone I have had in my loyal 7 years as a Verizon customer. But I agreed seeing as I figured she works for Verizon she must know, so she referred me to the env 3 which I ordered, BUT HERE'S THE KICKER! I tell my friends about it and said no it doesn't.... While looking at me confused, so I did further investigation and found out SHE WAS WRONG! So now I spent 50.00 on a 2 year contract I can't break because of a women's stupidity who was suppose to be a representative! The women's name was Brittany and I hope someone who works for Verizon reads this because I WILL NOT I repeat WILL NOT taking this sitting down! Im planning on making this public as possible, a business of Verizon's magnitude has no room for error in a department of sales! Tell your friends and family, let them no how ridiculous and how **bleep** a company can be!

Actually, the Rep was right and your friends including yourself are wrong. Just recently VZW launched $9.99 25MB and $19.99 75MB Data plan for their new line up of "Enhanced Multimedia Devices", this includes the LG EnV Touch and Samsung Rogue. You can do a search all over this forum or any other wireless forum on the web and you will see this is correct.
I don't know where you went with your "investigation" but you just overreacted and went straight ahead to post a new thread in the forums, next time please just go ahead and do a search.
Just one last thing, the LG EnV Touch was launched before these new data plans and Enhanced Multimedia Devices name was on placed. In the beginning it was just the Samsung Rogue but I think it was just this month that the EnV Touch was added to that list. Existing customers who got the phone before the env Touch was added to the list will be able to keep it w/o a data plan but after you switch to another phone and want to switch back people will require a data plan on it.

Get ready to insert your foot in your mouth.
Brittany was right. Env Touch and Samsung Rogue are Multimedia Device which require a data package of $9.99/month or to be on the Connect/Premium plan. When the env Touch first came out it didn't require that data package, however as of early November it is required. Perhaps you need to do a bit more research...
Even further, you have 30 days from when you first get new phones to return them and go back to your old contract.

WOW, that is a pretty ballsy headline for someone who has not done proper research! As others have said and explained, the representative you talked to was completely right. The reason VZW has these enhanced multi-media devices is to suit the needs of the data-friendly user. These phones were programmed for data usage, they have things like "widgets", "Dashboard," and "apps" built right into them. Maybe you need to rethink WHY you wanted the envtouch in the first place. It sounds like the representative DID do her job in placing you with a handset that better suits your needs. People were buying the env touch when it was first introduced (before it required a data package), not understanding the concept of paying for data, and would see all the neat things it could do with the internet...they would therefore get on the internet and be surprised when they got a bill with outrageous amounts of data charges. THese data packages were introduced as a way to save customers time and money when they are getting certain phones. So, yes, maybe $9.99 for 25 MB of data/month seems ridiculous, but you would not believe the amount of people that see internet and think its free-- and in the long run ends up costing them a fortune. 25MB of data without the package would cost you approximately $50...

This is a forum for information, he was spreading incorrect information and several people corrected the information. Everyone who has replied has been correct, expect for you. There are several phones that can not be activated without a data package, any smartphone or blackberry requires a package of at least $29.99/month. The LG Envtouch and Samsung Rogue are multimedia devices and require a data package of $9.99/month or be on the connect or premium plan. Search the forums, call customer service, go to a store...they will all confirm this information.

Some questions for you then:
1 - What is your definition of a "smart phone"?
2 - What is Verizon's definition of a "smart phone"?
3 - Have you actually tried (recently) to activate a Verizon defined "smart phone" on a pay as you go data plan?
I just want to know what your point of view is here.

No - I am truly curious if you had found a Verizon smart phone that you can activate with a standard phone plan and a pay as you go data plan, because I would love to have one.

yes you can .. Verizon HTC phones are smart phones including the older models like the touch, the pro and so on .. those are examples of smart phones u can have on a pay as you go daa plan where u will pay for each mb used. My nephew wanted a smart phone because he liked all the capabilities that it offered but was not allowed to go online.. Verizon mislead and said u cant have it without a data plan.. but if u go online and change the phone.. u r not required to pick the data coverage.

Jeremiah, my friend, you are correct about the OLDER smartphones not requiring the data package. The requirement applies to smartphones released after November 2008. All current models do, in fact, require the package. So you see, we are all correct, yourself included.
As for jumping on the OP, well, that will happen when you make an accusation like that in a topic headline. In this case the OP falsely accused the rep of lying, even though she was actually correct. Once we corrected the OP, did they bother to offer an apology for their accusation? Nope. Not even an "oops, my bad" or an "I stand corrected." So who is really the rude person here? The OP, or the rest of us?

5 posts and you know more than the other people on this forum. The case was stated and the rep told the correct information for the phone that he wanted. What does the original poster expect. Now had the original poster NOT been told of the addtional data fee requirement, then yeah there is room to complain and more people on this board would be behind him. It amounts the the same if I got on the FORUMS and complained that Verizon lied to me about the fact that I am required to charge my phone every so often to keep it running. Do you know how may posters would beat me down about that (btw I do know how to charge it, so don't start - [just not how to spell]).
The original poster also must have done the research by finding old ads under a rock because the verizon website clearly states that a data plan is required and has since verizon has made that change last month.

Well, some reps are doing just that to Alltel customers.

Okay - which is worse, the fact that they are telling Alltel customers that or the fact that they don't think Alltel customers have ever charged a cell phone before...
Do you have solar powered ones that self charge in the sun (that would be so cool)?

Everyone here is right, the enV TOUCH now requires a data package of $9.99 or you must be on a connect plan or premium plan. While browsing the phones online, stated in bright red and bold, they advise you of the required data plan. I am an indirect Verizon dealer so I know this is true and accurate. Sorry to tell you, but it's just $9.99 a month. All PDA's/ smart phones require a $29.99 data plan. I think you owe that REP an apology. She's just doing her job and of all people she will know exactly what she's talking about.
