Wow. Dec. 16, I ordered a new iPhone 14 and added a line for my 81 year old mother as a Christmas gift. It was time to just get her on our plan. Heard the process was easy, so picked up the phone on Dec. 17th.
Followed the process listed and waited. After a little time, I initiated a chat with an agent online and they said it was in process and to wait a little bit. I figured as I am in Minnesota and she is in Michigan, there may be a little extra time. After a little longer I called to speak with an agent to check on the progress, and after a long call, he said the current carrier has released the number and it would be ported on the 27th!!! That wasn't going to work as her plan was almost ending and she would be without a phone unless we pay for another month with her current carrier. The agent vaguely "assured" me it was in process and that he has asked to "expedite" the process. and he would follow up with me in a few days.... No communication happened.
A few days went buy and chatted with another agent checking progress, said it is in process, will be done in 24-48 hours... Waited 48 hours and no change..... chatted with yet another agent checking progress, said it is in process, will be done in 24-48 hours... Nothing! still in process... I just got off another chat, mind you 12 days after purchasing the phone and was just told it would be another 4-5 days!!! I am really confused and disappointed in this process and the lack of tangible data as to why it is taking so long. Just want to understand what truly is holding it up.
Now, I need to pay another month of service with my mothers current carrier and not sure if this phone will ever get ported over... \0/ - I would have just got her a new number but at 81, calling all her contacts, bills, doctors, etc... to change numbers seemed very daunting for her.
You would think with 4 chats and a phone call with "live" agents I would feel confident that this will be taken care of but I am not. Every time they were contacted, port date was pushed out with no reason or explanation.
Anyone else have this issue and did it get resolved?
I am sure they will not compensate me for the extra month I have to pay the current carrier and for the half month of service for a phone we cannot use.
