My iPhone7 stopped connecting and Apple, then Verizon told me I had to get a newer phone. At the Verizon store I was told of a promo of $350 if I purchased an iPhone14 which I purchased.
Note I said purchase, paid $810.00 - $350.00 for a total purchase price of $460.00. I was told I had to finance some of the purchase price, so I agreed to finance $60.00. I wonder if this is true.
I paid Verizon $498.79 including all charges and financed the balance of $60.00 -- or so I thought. The invoice did not show the promo amount of $350.00. It only showed my payment of my set up and go service payment of $29.99. $400.00 was financed and would appear on my next monthly statement.
I have filed a complaint and am awaiting contact by Verizon.
TWO ISSUES.
1. A promo should be applied at the point of sale. The promo I was offered was NOT a promo. It was a REBATE (that would catch up to me in a couple of months).
2. Sales tax. I paid sales tax on $810.00 + $29.99 = $839.99. Thus, a rebate. The tax should be been based on $810.00 - $350.00 + $29.99 = $489.99. A promo. This means I over paid sales tax. and will be over charged finance charges on my monthly bill for 2 or more months.
If Verizon does not refund the sale tax and monthly over payments, it is my opinion Verizon has committed, intentionally or unintentionally, fraud.
Hope Verizon is reading this.

Thank you for reaching out regarding your experience when upgrading your device, AuthorLee. It certainly does sound like there is some confusion, and that's never a good way to leave an interaction where a purchase decision was made. I'll be happy to provide some additional clarification. Whenever we offer a device promotion, it would be a monthly recurring credit. You mentioned that this was an offer of $350 off a new iPhone14. This would be a recurring credit over the course of the device payment agreement (financing), and can take 2-3 billing cycles before it would appear on your billing statement.
Regarding the sale taxes, those would be determined based on any applicable purchases. In this case the retail cost of the phone is applicable to be taxed as an $810 purchase. The promotional value does not reduce the tax burden in this instance.
If there is something more specific that we need to review, please let us know.
