I received a text from an area code and prefix similar to mine that simply stated "hey". When I asked who it was, the response was "You called me... who is this"? I didn't answer. Oddly, at the general time, that same number called a coworker who did not recognize the number and did not answer. Is this some sort of complex scam? Seems improbable that we would get called/text from the same number, as we have no other commonality other than work.

The first recommendation is to ensure your phone number is registered on the FCC’s do not call list at www.donotcall.gov.
