I am a taxicab driver in Las Vegas. Although the majority of my time is spent either around the Strip or the airport, I regularly do find myself throughout the Las Vegas Valley. My smartphone, for twelve hours a day, my constant companion.
Throughout the four years I have had my phone I have noted my signal strength has never been what I expected. The vast majority of the time it shows my connection as 3G. It is truly quite rare that it shows 4G. And, whether 3 or 4G -- and unless I am sitting on top of what must be a cell tower, I virtually never show anything more than 2 or 3 bars.
Too, the signal strength at my home (89123) is not only bad but seems to have gotten worse over the past year or so. (3G with ONE bar almost always.) The connection is so weak at my home that recently I just connect via wi-fi.
I don't pretend to be techno-savvy when it comes to smartphones, cell towers and signal strength. I simply wanted to post my four year long experience regarding my disappointment with Verizon's seemingly weak signal throughout the greater Southern Nevada area -- for whatever good/bad it's worth.
PS Given that I have no idea about such things, reading through some of the posts on this forum I have noted a few which suggest getting a new SIM card to boost signal strength. My phone ( four year old Droid Bionic) has its original SIM card. Might I want to try a different/new one??
